I am sorry to hear that I lost my good friend. My wife has a medical procedure today and will miss the service today. We will miss a good friend. Love, Les and Carol Knutsen.

  • Cindy Greer (Sabby) says:

Mr. Sherry was my German teacher at Mitchell Middle School. He was a favorite of mine; made learning fun. He would write a tongue twister on the chalkboard in German and call on kids randomly to recite it. Always a practical joke up his sleeve! It sure says something about his character to recall these memories !! What a great man!

  • Mary Hansen says:

I was so sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. He was such an interesting person who we loved
working with at Horlick High. He had such talent and passion for the things he loved. We
have many of his wonderful works in Rosemaling to remind us what a generous man he was.
I always enjoyed chatting with him on the Civil War about which he knew it all.
He taught my daughter German with his very relaxed style that made it so interesting.
    He will be sadly missed.

  • John Nickelsen says:

I met Steve when we were undergrad students at Whitewater. We worked together at Mitchell Junior High in Racine from September, 1965 through June, 1983. During that time we co-directed talent-shows and 3-act comedies several times, with Steve being the lead director. Steve and I also went through grad. School at UWM together. He was a fab teacher and colleague.

    • Kathryn Sherry says:

Mr. Nickelsen, thank you for your kind words. I don’t think I ever knew that you and Dad were in school together at Whitewater and UWM! That is great. I have fond memories of being in plays the two of you put together! He really was a great guy all around and is terribly missed. Thank you again, I hope you are well. Best, Kate Sherry

  • We are so sorry to learn of Steve’s illness and passing. He always showed kindness and respect to others, to history, and to his family. We have several of his Rosemaling pieces which we enjoy everyday. He will leave many treasured memories for his family and students to treasure.

  • Marilyn Ferg says:

I am so sorry to hear about Steve’s passing. I worked with him at Horlick for many years in the foreign language department. He was a great teacher and friend. I cherish the presents he always made us for Christmas.

  • Julie Hanisch (neé Miller) says:

Herr Sherry was my German teacher at Horlick HS where he always exhibited a sense of humor. He also helped out in the drama department to paint some of our scenery pieces. I always remember him saying he never used a dropcloth because he knew how not to drip paint! Rest in peace, Lehrer!

  • Ville Räisänen says:

So sorry to read about Mr. Sherry’s passing. Even after 29 (!) years I for some reason now googled him only to find this sad news. So he really made a big impression, what a great teacher he was. I myself was an exchange student in Racine (Horlick) in 1993-94 and some teachers I still remember very well, Steve Sherry definitely being one of them. Rest in peace.
    Warm greetings from Helsinki, Finland,
    Ville Räisänen

  • Tony Bose says:

So sorry to hear of the passing of Herr Sherry. He was my favorite teacher at Horlick and always had a great sense of humor with us. After he retired he would come to Walmart in Burlington and I’d develop his photos, always speaking in German to me. He was the best!
