Nanci Louise LeClair Nedweski (Astrid), age 61, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Kenosha, WI on July 22, 2020.
Nanci was born on May 9, 1959 in Highland Park, IL to Louise (nee Rion) and Bob LeClair. She graduated Highland Park High School in 1977, and married Dennis Nedweski in 1992. She worked for Goodwill Industries for over 30 years.
Nanci was actively involved with the Society for Creative Anachronism for over 25 years, during that time she served as Royalty, a Kingdom Officer, a Pelican, and a very good friend to a great many people.
Her hobbies included calligraphy, illumination, and jewelry making, she also loved hosting her family and friends and never missed an opportunity to open her home to bring loved ones together.
Nanci is survived by her husband Dennis Nedweski, her children, Sarah (Mike), Benny, Leif, Erick, Peter and her grandchildren Easton, Brandi & Lucus, her siblings Bob LeClair, Bill LeClair (Katie), Tom LeClair (Kerry), Julie Vetter (David), Sue Bohlin (Raymond), and Diane LeClair, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Nanci is preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Bob LeClair.
A private family service for Nancy will be held at a later date.

Nanci meant the world to us at work. She was always there to lend support and help any way she could. I will miss her great stories, her laugh, and kind words to everyone. She always said what was on her mind and would always ask how my family was. Our lives crossed over into our personal lives as well, which meant I got to also see her outside of work. I first met Nanci when I was a new employee of Goodwill Industries. She was the glue that held “cubicle” world together. Her office was a joyous as she was. Later I had the priviledge to get to know Nanci on a different level when I was working in the daycare and was a caregiver for McPete as she called him. Her motherly love and understanding was phenomenal.
Nanci was a beacon in the darkness. We loved her at the job center. Her pink wigs, tiaras, and contagious laugh.
Nanci and I shared a love of the Wizard of Oz.
To my yellow rose friend. You have finally walked the yellow brick rose and ” there is no place like home”.

Nanci was someone I could count on. She met every one of my requests at the Job Center with graciousness and did not give up until she was successful. The simple and joyful payment for my requests was to listen to a new story – usually about Leif who graduated Tremper with my daughter. Nanci was clearly devoted to her loved ones and her creative spirit and effervescence was always present in everything she did. I will miss her.

Nancy was one of the people i always made sure to introduce new staff to. She was like the “Mom” of the KCJC and always made sure we had what we needed to work successfully. Each year when we ordered new calendars, she would write out each person’s name in calligraphy on a post it on our calendars…..i mean, just a little thing but it was who she was. Made the everyday, just a little more special. I will miss her.

I am in the SCA and have known Nanci as Astrid for more than 25 years. I am so sad to think about never seeing her again. She was a staple at most events. I will never forget the way she said my name. Her smile was better than words and her hugs made me feel so safe and cared for. While working at SWL at the polls yesterday, I learned of Nanci’s passing. How sad I was. Nanci was always wiling and helpful whenever needed.
