Marie Frances Blasi

Marie Frances Blasi, age 74 of Kenosha passed away on November 23rd, 2020 at Froedtert South Kenosha Hospital. Born on September 12th, 1946 in Kenosha, WI, she was the daughter of the late Francis R. Johnston and Doris (Funk) Johnston. Educated in Kenosha, she attended St. Thomas and St. Mary grade schools, graduated from St. Joseph High School and Accredited School of Beauty Culture in Racine, WI. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Blasi in Kenosha on November 26th, 1966 at St. Mary Catholic Church.

Marie and Rick were a solid team all of their married lives. They supported each other and worked hard to provide a loving home for their family. Marie worked as a hairdresser for many years before retiring to raise her family. She later worked with her husband in the family business, Chromium, Inc in Racine, WI. She was an original member of the Shoreliners Drum and Bugle Corps in the color guard unit. Marie was a devoted wife, mother, and a proud grandmother. Her family always came first. She was selfless, loving, helpful, and kind. She traveled extensively around the world with her husband and family members, always enjoying a new adventure. She loved being a homemaker and her home reflected her presence. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, decorating, golfing, music, dancing, holiday traditions and was a Green Bay Packers fan.

She is survived by her husband Richard, daughters Stephanie (Steve) Lucas and Andrea (Thomas) Powers, her five beautiful and beloved grandchildren, Riley, Tyler, Lauren, Cole and Paige, two sisters, Patricia (Richard) Nygro of Racine, WI and Norma Tyler of Union Grove, WI and her Aunt, Georgia Pillizzi of Racine who was like a sister to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Gregory Johnston, paternal grandparents, Martin Johnston, and Clara (Michaud) Johnston Wierschem, her maternal grandparents, George and Helga (Petersen) Funk.

According to Marie’s wishes, funeral services will be private. The family would like to thank the staff at Froedtert South for their loving care and compassion as well as Dr. Lenny Montemurro.

September 12th, 1946 – November 23rd, 2020

“I read of a man who stood to speak at a funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning… to the end. He noted that first came her date of birth and then spoke of the following date with tears. But he said what matter most of all was the DASH between those years. For the DASH represents all of the time that she spent alive on Earth… and now only those who loved her know what that little dash is worth. For it matters not, how much we own, the cars, the homes, the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our DASH.”

  • Rick, so sorry for your loss. Our memories, however, have not changed. We have talked about you, Marie, and the girls a number of times. Even though it has been over 30 years, you have not been out of mind. We have had fun watching the girls grow, and Jean is on Facebook watching Andrea’s children.
Your family has always been top notch. Thanks for the important part you and Marie have played in our lives. We will continue to cherish our memories.

My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Rick and family. Marie was the sweetest friend anyone could ever have. I knew right away when I met her in 9th grade at St Joe’s we would be good friends. We had a lot of fun singing in a band with Marilyn Rhey and just hanging out around town. Then time passed and we reconnected just a short time ago and it was just like old times being with her again. I am so sad and will miss her so much. I know she’s in a good place now where God made a place for her. Love ya girlfriend

  • Marilyn Rhey Meldahl says:

My heart aches and the pain will take a long time to go away for me. Marie was my best friend from the time we were growing up in the old neighborhood. We were always together through grade school and high school. Sat on the curbs at night during the summer and talked for hours. Sang together in bands which I never would have done without your prodding. Was your Maid of Honor in your wedding and were together always. I will miss our times at the Cinema and our long talks on the phone. Good Bye, Marie . I can’t imagine my life without you and your sense of humor. No one could make me laugh harder than you could..
I will always remember you saying to me “The glass is half full, Marilyn. The glass is half full”. I love you Marie. And I am devastated at losing you. A part of you will always be with me my good friend.
And May the good lord grant Rick and the girls the strength to face life without you. I know it will be difficult for me.

    • Patricia Bernacchi-Oldani says:

      Marilyn,
Praying also for you and hoping the pain you are suffering will lessen with time. You not only lost your lifelong/best friend but, also a part of yourself which
went with Marie. There will always be an emptiness that stays with you forever.
It will just get easier to deal with as time goes on. Peace be with you Marilyn! ?

  • Aunt Marie I remember when I was a young girl and Uncle Rick and you first started dating, I thought you were so beautiful and I wanted to grow up and be like you. You were always kind to me, and as I faced many difficulties through out my life you were like the older sister I never had, you listened gave advice and you cared. You loved me and you were my favorite aunt I will never forget how good you were to Tiffany, every summer you invited her up to spend time with your family and treated her like your own. She cherished those trip and our three girls will always be close and even though we lived far away you always made us feel like we were a part of the family. I remember our trips together, always fun laughing and enjoying the precious time we spent making memories. You were a amazing wife and mother, and Uncle Rick’s rock. My heart is breaking for Stephanie Andrea and especially Uncle Rick I know he is lost without you. May you rest in Gods embrace and May God give peace and comfort to Uncle Rick, Andrea and Stephanie. You will always be in my heart. Love you and thank you Aunt Marie until we meet again.

  • Sandra Mercier says:

Oh Marie, thank God for our memories. Ours started in high school, I thought you were the coolest, you were pretty, you were kind and had a great sense of humor. I remembered us all piled in a car to go downtown to scoop the loop, we did something different that nite, we parked the car and we all got out and stood on the corner with our thumbs hooked in our pants, all the cars were going by blaring their music and honking their horns. We just laughed and carried on. I remember going to the bar, watching you, Donna and Marilyn sing with the band, heartbroken because I couldn’t carry a tune to do it to. I remember Rick picking you up from school and you getting into the car and scooting over so you could be next to him. Such great fun memories. Then we all graduated and pretty much everyone went different ways, some married others moved. I had to go to Kenosha last year because my sister was so sick.then we all connected again, in fact I spent my birthday with you, Jo Ann ,Donna and Kathy, what a great feeling that was even tho you and I broke a couple of Jos wine glasses. We stayed in touch ever since, I treasure my memories and I treasure my friendship with you. My condolences to Rick and the rest of your family, I’m sure you left a great void in their lives, they were so lucky, you were a great wife, mother , grandmother and I am so sad to see you leave . I will miss you my friend

  • Dear Aunt Marie,
I remember when I was a little girl how much I looked up to you and Uncle Rick. You were so beautiful and kind and uncle Rick was the cool uncle. Heartfelt condolences, prayers, and love to you all. I hope your cherished memories will give you comfort and peace in time. Love you all!
