Susan Olep (1937 – 2012)

Susan F. Olep, age 74 a resident of Pleasant Prairie, died peacefully Saturday February 11th, 2012 at United Hospital Systems St. Catherines Campus surrounded by her loving family.

Susan was born on October 26, 1937 to Oscar and Ethel (Florence) Christenson in Chippewa Falls WI. She was a graduate of Bradford High School and UW-Madison. She married Elmer Olep in Madison, WI in 1960. She was a lifetime resident of Wisconsin living most of her years in Wausau and Kenosha. Susan was employed by Kenosha Unified School District for many years as a home economics teacher at both Lance and Bullen Middle Schools and also worked as a substitute teacher. She retired in 1997. In coming from a long line of educators, the importance of education had been instilled in her since childhood. She enjoyed working with young people because of their spontaneous reactions, enthusiasm and endless questions. She often donated generously to the Shalom Center, Womens and Children’s Horizons and the Salvation Army. Susan loved gardening, bird watching, cooking and sewing.

Susan is survived by her sons Erik Olep of Dubuque, IA; Pete and Kimiko Olep of San Diego, CA and daughter Kara Olep of Pleasant Prairie, WI. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan Olep, Greyson Olep, Kenton Olep and Kalei Martin. She is further survived by a sister Sarah and Thomas Holt of Florida.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday February 16th , 2012 at 7:00PM at the Kemper Center Founders Hall (6501-3rd Avenue). Visitation with the family will be on Thursday at the Kemper Center Founders Hall from 6:00PM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, Susan would appreciate memorials to Hospice Alliance.
