Richard L. Van Caster (1926-2016)

Richard L. Van Caster, age 90 a resident of Pleasant Prairie, died Thursday June 2nd 2016 at Grande Prairie in Pleasant Prairie.

Richard was born in Kenosha on April 18th, 1926 to Louis and Elizabeth (Rapp) Van Caster. He was a proud member of the U.S. Navy and on July 31st, 1948, he married the love of his life Janice Petersen. She preceded him in death just last year, after 67 years together.

Richard made his living as a test driver in the local automotive industry. He was an ardent sports fan, who rooted for all the Wisconsin teams. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing softball and basketball and continued for many years as a referee. He loved bowling and golfing and he and Janice enjoyed 20 years in Florida together. Richard was an active Mason and attended services at First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the former Elks Club of Kenosha, and at one time was a Little League coach.

He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Debbie) Van Caster of Conover, Wisconsin and Thomas (Aaron Galley) Van Caster of Kenosha. In addition, Richard is survived by his seven grandchildren, Kristen (Jeff) Shenk, Joe (Karisa) Van Caster, Bryanna Van Caster, Shandon (David) Price, Erika Elmblad, Emily Elmblad and Elise Elmblad, by his three great grandchildren, Owen, Avery and Eastan Shenk and by his son-in-law David Elmblad.

Preceding Richard in death were his parents, his wife, and their beautiful daughter Susan Elmblad.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday June 9th 2016 at 11:00AM at First Presbyterian Church in Kenosha. (1803-83rd Street) Visitation will take place on Thursday at church from 10:00AM until the time of services.
