Kevin A. Gwozdz, 49, of Kenosha, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012.
He was born May 22, 1963 in Toledo, Oh.
He graduated from St. Johns Jesuit High School in Toledo, Oh., and later earned a Machinists degree. He had been employed as a machinist at Tempel Steel in Libertyville, Ill.
He was a very patriotic American who served in the Ohio State National Guard from 1981-1987.
On Oct. 19, 1991, he married Christine K. Ellgas at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Racine, Wis.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Kenosha. He had taught Sunday school with his wife and volunteered for MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers).
He volunteered at Bridges Community Center, where he received the 2008 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award and was currently serving on the Board of Directors. He also earned a Peer Support Specialist Certificate through DBSA in 2008 (Depression Bipolar Support Alliance). Additionally, he facilitated AODA support groups (Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse).
He is survived by his wife Christine; his daughter, Mackenzie; his parents, Frank and JoAnne (Glesmer) Gwozdz; and his brother, Steven (Sue) Gwozdz in Ohio. He is also survived by his loving dog, Dinah.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer) or Bridges Community Center.
Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at First Christian Church (13022-Wilmot Road or Hwy C just west of I-94) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A service at the church will follow.
