Fred A. Nyberg, 91, a resident of Kenosha, passed away peacefully at St. Catherine’s Hospital on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on September 3, 1922 in Racine to Frederick and Ella (Besch) Nyberg. The family moved to Kenosha when he was an infant and he was educated in the schools of Kenosha. Fred was a veteran of World War II in the United States Army. He received a degree in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On July 17, 1954 (two days after payday) he was united in marriage to Eleanore (Forster) Nyberg.
During Fred’s lifetime he was the first Alderman of the 6th Ward in 1958 and employed by various Kenosha businesses including American Motors, LeBlanc and KAT. Fred then began importing and retailing cross country skis and then expanded into Nyberg’s Trophies & Awards where he made many lasting friendships. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. Fred also enjoyed camping, fishing, “bags” games at his son’s house and Wii bowling with his grandchildren. Fred was best known for his sense of humor, his quick wit and his generosity. He was proud to pass these traits on to his family.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Eleanore of Kenosha and by his five children; Lisa (James) Ruffolo of Manitowoc, Jeffrey (Cindy) Nyberg of Pleasant Prairie, Kristin (Kenneth) Wilbik of Kenosha, Nancy (Kent) Becker of Kenosha and Daniel (Rachel) Nyberg of Kenosha. He is further survived by his grandchildren; Jason, Paul (Erin), Corey and Annalise Ruffolo, David, Andrew and James Wilbik, Eric Nyberg, Adam and Carolin Becker, Emily and Mitchell Nyberg and by one great-grandchild Caleb Ruffolo. He will be missed by many of his dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Betty.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Brian Hettrick of Paddock Lake and his staff for 15 years of exceptional care.
