Anita R. Brothers

Anita R. Brothers, age 89, of Kenosha, died peacefully on September 19, 2026, at Kenosha Place Assisted Living.

Anita was born in Kenosha on May 25, 1937, to Merle and Margaret Sheridan. She was educated in the Kenosha schools and graduated from Bradford High School in 1955. She married Charles J. Brothers on April 27, 1957.

Anita was a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, and wife who devoted herself to her family and took great pride in the accomplishments of her husband and children. She was also a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Throughout her life, Anita was active, social, and always up for a challenge. In her younger years, she was a member of the Kenosha Junior Women’s Club, participating in the club’s annual Follies and its lively performances. Tennis and bridge became lifelong passions. Beginning in 1992, she played competitive tennis in the USTA over-50 league with a close group of teammates. Together, they won local and state tournaments and advanced to the sectional championships three consecutive years.

Bridge became another enduring pursuit. After many years of playing in local bridge clubs and tournaments, Anita achieved the rank of Life Master from the American Contract Bridge League in 2019, a significant accomplishment that reflected her skill, persistence, and love of the game.

She is survived by her sons Brad of Kenosha, Kevin (Laurie) of Pleasant Prairie, Mike of Kenosha, and Mathew (Jen) of Chicago; her daughter, Leslie of Kenosha; her eight beloved grandchildren, Becky (Cameron), Joe, Mathew (Brea), Lindsey (Andy), Noah, Veronica, Grace, and Charlie; her three beloved great-grandchildren, Aria, Bennett, and Beckham; and her brother Jim (Kathy) Sheridan and their family.

Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Brothers, and her parents, Merle and Margaret Sheridan.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Messiah Lutheran Church. Visitation with the family will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by the service. Private burial will take place Monday at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.

In place of flowers, memorials to the Kenosha Humane Society or Messiah Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
