Shirley M. Carney, age 83, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.
She was born in Kenosha on August 20, 1936 a daughter of the late John and Lucille (Beaumier) Althoff.
Shirley attended St. Thomas Elementary School and was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School, Racine. She received her Nursing Degree from St. Therese School of Nursing.
On October 12, 1957, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Kevin J. Carney. Sadly, he preceded her in death on May 15, 2007.
She began her Registered Nursing career as a private duty nurse. For many years she was employed in the Intensive Care Unit at Kenosha Hospital. Shirley retired from the Kenosha Visiting Nurse Assoc. after twenty-two years of service.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she and Kevin served her Parish as Sacristans for many years. She enjoyed her lunches with her “Red Hat” ladies and the time she and Kevin spent at their lake home on Legend Lake in northern WI entertaining family and friends. A quiet prayer filled walk at the lake recharged her life as well as all the people she prayed for.
Survivors include her three sons, Jeff (Margaret) Carney, Mark (Sandra) Carney and Scott (Ann) Carney; her seven grandchildren who were the apples of her eye, Rick (Katie) Carney, Lauren Carney, Erin Carney, Kyle Carney (Sarah Weiss), Sara Carney, Joe Carney, and Matthew Carney, and her precious great grandchildren, Patrick and Kevin Carney. She is further survived by her sister Carol (Doug) Kester.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated as 12 o’clock noon at St. Mary Catholic Church (corner of 73rd Street and 39th Avenue). A visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 10:00AM until the time of the Mass. Private interment will take place in St. James Cemetery. Memorial remembrances to Heartland Hospice, 9114 58th Place, Kenosha WI 53144 would be appreciated by the Carney family.
