Sandra J. Principe

In Loving Memory of Sandra J Tonarelli Principe

Sandra J. Tonarelli Principe was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1937, and passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at the age of 88, surrounded by her loving family. She moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin at an early age, where she was raised and made her lifelong home. She was the cherished daughter of Alexandro Tonarelli and Rose (Mula) Principe and was blessed to have the love and guidance of her stepfather, John Principe.

Sandra was a devoted and loving mother to Robin Pierce, Victoria Pierce, and John Cortez. She is also dearly remembered by Victoria’s wife, Vicki Sanderson-Pierce, who held a special place in Sandra’s heart. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren—Matthew (Jessica) Pierce, Tyler Dunham, Jordyn McHugh, and Lily Cortez—and her great-grandchildren: Destiny Pierce, Faith Pierce, Zackery Day Jr, Jasmier Day, Makayla Day, and Axel Rene Melendez. Sandra was also blessed to meet her great-great-grandchild, Isabella Brindis. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Alexandro Tonarelli and Rose (Mula) Principe, and her stepfather, John Principe. She is survived by her brother, John Principe.

A proud graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School, Class of 1956, Sandra built a meaningful career in Kenosha’s banking community. She also worked at American Motors and later retired from Hormel International.

Sandra’s faith was a quiet but constant source of strength throughout her life. A devout Catholic, she held a deep belief in God and found comfort and peace in prayer, reading her Bible and trusting in God’s plan. Her faith guided her through life’s joys and hardships and shaped the kindness, patience, and compassion she showed to everyone around her. Even in challenging times, Sandra leaned on her faith with grace and humility, drawing comfort from knowing she was never alone.

Sandra’s greatest joy was her family. She embraced her role as “Nana” with immense love and pride, always making her grandchildren feel seen, cherished, and deeply loved. She took extraordinary pride in her Italian heritage, which shaped her deep appreciation for family traditions, shared meals, and gathering together—especially during holidays that brought loved ones around the table. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, listening to music, cheering on her favorite football teams, and spending quiet moments reflecting on her faith.

Sandra was truly the heart of our family, a steady, loving presence who held us together through every season of life. Her strength, compassion, unwavering faith, and boundless love will be profoundly missed, but her spirit and memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family is deeply grateful to the caregivers at Brookside Care Center and hospice staff for the loving, respectful care they provided to Sandra during her final journey.

“Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.”

Services for Sandra will be held on Saturday, January 24th at All Saints Cemetery Chapel (3300 Springbrook Road, Pleasant Prairie). Visitation with family and friends will take place from 11am until the prayer service at 12.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sandra’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which she supported with compassion and generosity.

I’m at Sandra when I was a young girl and she worked at the deli on Sheridan Road. I lived on 62nd St. right off of Sheridan Road and I used to go in there all the time and talk to her and then years later I worked with her daughter Vicki and we became friends. She is truly a wonderful lady.

  • Judith Knutson says:

What do I miss about Sandy? I miss riding down our Brookside hall and waving to her as she relaxed in her recliner. I miss stopping by her room after dinner or after I’d been outside. Sandy loved playing cards and bingo. It was fun getting to know her family. Now she doesn’t have to worry about levels on her oxygen tank. My she enjoy a new life at the right hand of God. My feelings go out to her entire family.
