Peter Stipanuk Jr., 89, passed away June 10, 2015 at his home in Franklin, Indiana surrounded by loved ones. The ninth of eleven children, Peter was born October 17, 1925 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Peter Sr. and Dora Lukianchuk Stipanuk. He grew up in Kenosha and graduated from Bradford High School where he played basketball. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. He majored in accounting at the University of Wisconsin and used his training at Studebaker in South Bend, Indiana, Quaker Industries in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and at Anaconda Aluminum in Terre Haute, Indiana until he retired in 1984.
Peter married Joyce Rode in 1954. They would have celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary on June nineteenth of this year. They were blessed with five daughters: Barbara (David) Winslow, Lakewood, CO; Carol (David) Smith, Midland, TX; Lynn (Gaston) Dana, Franklin, IN; Jean (Mark) Jenkins, Newport MN; and Pamela (Lee) Moore, Taccoa, GA. They have twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Peter was the first to “be called home” of this group. He is survived by two sisters, Helen Goll of Kenosha, WI and Dorothy Pinnock of Hamilton, Ontario, and a brother, Andrew of Kenosha, WI. Preceding Peter in death were his parents, Peter Sr. and Dora, and siblings John, Mike, Jacob, Steve, Ann Levy, Mary Christiansen, and Betty Polzin.
Peter loved the Lord and served faithfully at his local church in leadership and worship roles. For the past two years he was a regular at Friendship Baptist Church in his Franklin neighborhood, and he attended Outdoor Resort Fellowship for the last twenty winters. He was a member of the Gideons and volunteered as a mentor for Junior Achievement in Terre Haute, IN. He enjoyed golf and participated in the Anaconda golf league for thirty years as well as many other golf competitions. Woodworking was another favorite pastime. His family received the benefits of this skill in the form of doll furniture, potato bins, benches, and whatever was ordered.
The memorial celebration is scheduled for Saturday June 20, 2015 at 12:30 P.M. at the Sunset Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, Kenosha, WI. Memorial contributions may be made to Baptist World Missions (Dean and Sue Zemke) or Slavic Gospel Association.
Leo G. Zambenini says:
Sorry to see the passing of Pete, I worked with him at the Terre Haute Anaconda Aluminum plant many years. He was a good accounting manager and always the gentleman. Leo Zambenini
