Mary J. Popp (1933-2015)

Mary Popp

Mary J. Popp, age 82, a resident of Kenosha, died Wednesday June 24, 2015 at her residence.

Mary was born in Cudahy Wisconsin on June 20th, 1933 to John and Winnifred (Collins) Whidden. She was one of five daughters and was educated in the schools of Cudahy. On June 2, 1956, she was united in marriage with Louis Popp at St. Frederick Catholic Church in Cudahy. Their union would be blessed with two sons and two daughters.

Mary was a homemaker, but that word did not describe all of her gifts. She was a great mom to her own children and her home was the favorite gathering spot of dozens of neighborhood kids, who came for Mary’s hospitality as well as the family’s back yard pool. Although she did not work outside the home, she was affectionately known as President and CEO of her husband’s business Lou’s Carpet & Vinyl of Kenosha, Inc. She often joked that it was hard to find good help.

Mary was formerly a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and was currently a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Lou of Kenosha, and by her children; Tim (Sheryl) Popp of Cedarburg, Tom (Sandra) Popp of Trevor, Theresa (Michael) Colney of New Glarus and Tammy (George-Eddie) Carrion of Kenosha. She is further survived and will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Christopher, Ben, Hannah, Eddie, Sophia, Jacqueline, Joe (Trista), and by her great grandchildren Briella, Madeline and Jaxon. Mary is survived in addition by her last remaining sister Jacqueline Kubisz.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and by her sisters Carol, Patricia and Nancy.

A mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday June 27th 2015 at 1:00PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kenosha. (Corner of 39th Avenue and 73rd Street) Visitation with the family will be on Saturday at the church from 11:00AM until the time of mass. Burial will take place on Monday June 29th 2015 at 11:00AM at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials to either Hospice Alliance or St. Mary’s Catholic Church would be appreciated.
