Marie E. Meier (1929-2016)

Marie Meier

Marie Elizabeth Meier, age 87, passed away on Wednesday November 9th, 2016 at Manor Care in Kenosha.

Marie was born in Somers, Wisconsin on August 1st, 1929, the daughter of John and Emily (Hardt) Kramer. She attended local schools and worked at the F.W. Woolworth Co. in Racine for eight years until the time of her marriage to Harold J. Meier in September of 1951 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Marie was a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, watching golf, reading and doing puzzles. She was a big fan of the Packers and Cubs and was famous for her needlework. She spent most of the year diligently making cross-stitch Christmas ornaments for the Holiday Fair at the Senior Center. Marie was a devout member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Surviving Marie is her beloved daughter Barbara (Joseph Bruenning) Meier and her grandchildren Jeffrey (Kadi) Leiting and Kristin (Ed) Gritzner and great grandchildren EJ Gritzner, Maddie Gritzner, Will Leiting, Wyatt Leiting Zachary Leiting and Joey Leiting as well as her sisters-in-law Eve Meier and Josephine Meier and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, her daughter Susan M. Leiting, her sister Dorothy Kowbel and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services for Marie will be held on Saturday November 12th, 2016 at 10:00AM at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church (5038 19th Ave. Kenosha). Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday at the church from 8:30AM until the time of services. Burial will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
