Larry D. Bain

Larry D. Bain, 88, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born at home on a family farm in Washington County, IA on June 10, 1937, to Dale and Rosa (Davison) Bain. He graduated in 1955 in Wayland, Iowa and earned an accounting degree in 1970 from Rutger’s University. Larry served in the U.S. Army Reserve (1960-1966). He worked for NABISCO from 1957-1970. Larry retired in 1997 as a Senior Accountant in External Reporting from Abbott Laboratories where he was employed for 27 years.

Larry met the love of his life, Janice, in a singles group at the church they both attended. They were united in marriage on October 29, 1960, at the First Baptist Church in Maywood, IL. Throughout their 62 years of marriage Larry and Janice faithfully served their Lord in various roles in the church and the Gideon Organization. Larry and Jan were members of Crossway Community Church since 2005.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother, brothers Leroy and Allen, sisters Donna (William) Mueller and Dorothy, a grandson Jaedon David Bain, and a great-grandson Jace Riley Turgeon. He is survived by his three children Debbie (Bryan) Turgeon, Becky (David) Warren, and David, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Larry found joy in serving his Lord Jesus Christ, caring for his family, and fellowshipping with his friends over breakfast and a hot cup of coffee.

Funeral services for Larry D. Bain will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Crossway Community Church (13905 75th Street, Bristol, Hwy 50 west of 94 on south side of street). Visitation will be on Friday at Crossway from 1:00pm – 2:00pm. The funeral service will begin at 2:00pm. Private entombment will take place at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Gideon Organization would be appreciated. (Sendtheword.org)

Thoughts for Larry D. Bain;

  • I’m very sorry for your loss. I didn’t know Larry, but my Dad was a Gideon, too. As a member of CrossWay I would like to be there in support on Friday, but I have to work. Will be praying for the family. Kimberly (Koetz) Kim

  • Jan Zielinski says:

    I was so sorry to hear about your loss. Larry attended the same Bible Study I did at Abbott Laboratories, and I remember him as being soft-spoken and very kind. He talked about being involved with the Gideons. I am now also a member of CrossWay.

  • Roy and Ruth Aldrich says:

    Roy and I have been friends with the Bains since the 70’s when we attended Baptist Tabernacle together. They went to Assembly for a while and then we started at Crossway and they came over. Larry had a mischievous sense of humor and always gave me a smile. We loved them both and are happy that they are together again. We are out of town for awhile but will be praying for the family. Hugs to all.

  • David Daghfal says:

    We loved being part of care group with Larry and Jan for years. They loved the Lord Jesus and were a wonderful example to us of such a warm and loving couple. We have missed Larry and our hearts are sad for his passing. But we look forward to reuniting with them in heaven!
    Much love
    David & Elizabeth

  • Becky, I have so many very fond memories of your dad as we grew up. He was so kind and so talented. I’ll never forget the stilts he made for us! We had so much fun. And I always thought you were so blessed to have had a family so involved in church, and I cherished our time together at Awana. That was my first introduction to God, and I believe that’s where I got the base for my belief today, thanks to your family. I’ll always love your parents for that. I love you, Becky…strongest person I know. Thanks be to God.
