John R. Newman (1935-2016)

John Newman

John Robert (“Bob”) Newman, 80, of Kenosha passed away peacefully on Sunday July 31, 2016, at home.  Bob was born in Kenosha to John and Margaret Newman on November 5, 1935.  He attended Roosevelt Elementary School, McKinley Junior High School, and Kenosha High School.  He married the love of his life, Lorna Jean Gentz, on October 4, 1958. Bob earned his apprenticeship as a tool and die maker at Lundberg Brothers Machine Company. For most of his adult life, Bob worked for American Motors Corporation, as a tool and die maker, from 1963 until his retirement in 1989. He also served as vice president of Lodge 34 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Engineers, serving in the role for a number of years.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, boating, waterskiing, fishing, and hunting.  In his later years, Bob enjoyed learning how to use computers and how to transfer music from old records to CDs, but most especially cataloging old pictures of his family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret of Kenosha; and by his grandson-in-law, Wyatt Brooks Martin of Freeport, Illinois.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Lorna; his three daughters: Dawn (Rick) Herrmann of Kenosha; Chris (Bill) Johnson of Kenosha; and Lisa (Troy) Hales of Davis, Illinois; and his brother, Ron (Susan) Newman of Olathe, Kansas.  Bob is also survived by six grandchildren, Tim Herrmann (Paige Bakkum) of Kenosha; Andy Herrmann of Kenosha; Emily (Eric) Guptail of Dubuque, Iowa;  Spencer (Leonora) Seitz of Kenosha; Mary Cantu of Freeport, Illinois; Caroline Martin of Davis, Illinois; and David Newman Hales of Davis, Illinois; one great grandchild, “Baby Guppy” Guptail; and a special little buddy, Kayden Adler.

Funeral services will be on Friday August 5th 2016 at 11:00AM in the Kemper Center Founders Hall. (6501-3rd Avenue) Visitation with the family will be on Friday in Founders Hall from 9:30AM until the time of services. Burial will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to either Hospice Alliance, Pheasants Forever or White Tails Unlimited would be appreciated.
