James E. Deschler, age 76 a resident of Kenosha, died Tuesday June 10th 2014 at Sheridan Medical Complex.
Jim was born April 2, 1938 in Racine to the late Edward and Louise (Putman) Deschler. He was educated in the schools of Racine. Jim served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1960. On October 6, 1984 he was united in marriage to Leslie Beal at Kenosha’s WesleyUnitedMethodistChurch.
Jim made his living as a property owner and manager in Racine. He was an avid hand gun enthusiast and was known for putting on target shooting exhibitions. He loved sports and enjoyed discussing current affairs and local politics.
Jim lost his vision at age 35 and was very involved as a volunteer coordinator for Visually Impaired Services. Jim also worked with the Wisconsin Council of the Blind. He was a gifted public speaker and once appeared before the State Senate in an attempt to keep the JanesvilleSchool for the Blind from closing. He also spoke at local schools and was an associate member of the Lion’s Club.
Jim is survived by his sister in law Rhonda Deschler of Kenosha and nephew Matthew (Kelli) Deschler of Racine, and great nieces Natalie, Gabriella and Aubrey all of Racine. He is further survived by many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one brother Melvin.
