Ellen B. (Hamsing) Schellinger, 93, a lifelong resident of Kenosha, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Home and Rehab Center.
Ellen was born on January 12, 1922. She was employed as a secretary in Kenosha, as well as with the U.S. Government at Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois. On September 8, 1951, she married Raymond G. “Ray” Schellinger. In 1953, Ellen and Ray established Schellinger’s Egg Farm located on Green Bay Road in Kenosha which they operated for over 25 years. Ellen was later employed with Jelco Wisconsin for 10 years as a school bus aide to special-needs children.
Ellen was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, and Taws and Paws Square Dance Club.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Sandra (David) Laspa of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; her two sons, Glenn Schellinger of Phoenix,AZ, and Leo (Karen) Schellinger of Louisville, KY; and her three grandchildren, Ryan Laspa of Azusa,CA, Kyle (Samantha) Laspa of Maple Grove, MN, and Jena Laspa of Verona, WI.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ray Schellinger; her parents, Herbert and Clara (Bettin) Hamsing; and her sister, Rosanne (Tracy) Snyder.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Ellen on Monday, February 9th, 2015 at 11AM at St. Joseph’s Home and Rehab Center Chapel (9244 – 29th Avenue) Visitation with the family will be on Monday at St. Josephs Home from 10:30 AM until the time of mass.
Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated with charities to be designated later.
