Dorothy G. Van Tubbergen

Dorothy Gertrude (nee: Holmes) Van Tubbergen, age 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Kenosha Senior Living.

Born in Antioch, IL on May 27, 1926, the daughter of the late Edward Holmes and Edith (nee: Swanson) Holmes, she attended high school at Antioch High School.

Dorothy was married to the late Harvey J. Van Tubbergen on October 22, 1948 in Oak Park, IL.

Dorothy grew up near the Chain O’Lakes area and enjoyed fishing.  Dorothy and Harvey raised their children in Kenosha, WI. They were members of the Christian Reformed Church in Kenosha.  Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Family pets brought her joy.  She traveled to Switzerland and Hawaii with a friend after children were grown.  She learned to swim later in life and enjoyed it ever since.  She cherished life-long friendships with neighbors on 27th Avenue.  Dorothy will be remembered for her infectious laugh. Dorothy dedicated her life to raising her family.  She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Dorothy has left many behind to cherish her memory:  Her children, Wayne Van Tubbergen, Linda (Mario) Amien, Susan (Ken) Gehri, Nancy (Charles) Otis and Cynthia Heyden and daughter-in-law Kathleen Van Tubbergen;  grandsons, Michael (Rachel Adams) Van Tubbergen, Tim Gehri, Andrew (Jenna) Otis, Nicholas (Ashely Monti) Van Tubbergen, Eric Van Tubbergen and Evan Heyden;  granddaughters, Jennifer (Charlie Forbes) Otis, Renee (Eric) Thompson, Christine Van Tubbergen, April (Chris) Roach and Nina Heyden; great grandchildren Madilyn and Bradley Roach.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey J. Van Tubbergen, on December 19, 2008, her son, Larry (Kathleen) Van Tubbergen, on June 1, 2016 and a sister, Margaret Holmes, in 1928.

The family thanks the staff of Kenosha Senior Living for the dedicated and compassionate care of Dorothy, in addition, thanks to Dr. Stephen Feuerbach and staff.

The family is planning a private service for Dorothy. Interment entrusted to Southern WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI.
