Daniel Lee Miller, age 74, of Caledonia, passed away on August 27th, 2026, at Ascension All Saints in Racine, WI. He was born on August 20th, 1952, in Wisconsin to the late Ralph and Hazel Miller.
Daniel loved playing pool, fishing and operating his ham radio. He contacted over 100 different countries and eventually became licensed as an Extra Class Ham Radio Operator. He was known as a jack of all trades to those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife: Gail (Barton) Miller, brother: Kurt (Paula) Miller, brother-in-law: Steven (Leesa) Barton, sister-in-law: Joy Barton, aunt in law: Shirley Gillette, and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister: Jill Dexter and brother-in-law: Micky Barton.
As per Daniel’s wishes, services will be held privately.

Dan was an important friend to so many people in our corner of Wisconsin. I knew him through amateur radio which was a major interest for him. As I studied for more advanced licenses, he would endure long phone calls to help me understand some of the reading material before I took the next exam. We even had to learn to copy Morse code. He had a wealth of knowledge about radios, antennas, and regulations which he shared in classes he taught. One class consisted of 7th and 8th grade students from Gilmore Middle School. He was a leader who encouraged participation in events such as the annual field day, walks/runs, transmitter hunts, and so much more.
Many of us knew of his health challenges, and yet we were taken by surprise to learn of his death; radio operators would call him a “silent key.” He was a unique man who inspired many of us through his knowledge, lasting friendships, helpfulness with projects, and knowing how to take charge as a leader in several radio clubs. KA9OIL, we will miss you and also be grateful for your lasting memories made through friendships.
