Thoughts for Daniel H. Kugler;

  • Rick Roberts says:

Margie and family. I am truly saddened to hear about Dan’ passing. He was so proud of his family and constantly spoke fondly about all of his kids and his very special wife and best friend, Margie. Dan was not only “larger than life”, he made everyone’s life better through laughter. He was highly dedicated to his career and to furthering risk management through all of the teaching he did for many, many years. He provided great insights on risk management to all of his peers.

Dan and I became great friends through RIMS and we loved getting together to discuss risk and have a cigar (go figure!!). You could always tell where Dan was at our RIMS dinners and outings because everyone at his table was giggling with joy listening to his great stories and “philosophy’s” and the table could get a tad “noisy”. I am going to miss Dan greatly as will all of his past students and many friends at RIMS. Dan was “best of the best” as a friend and mentor. My prayers are with you all during these difficult times.

  • David Schend says:

I was fortunate to meet Dan and Margie in the 80’s… When Dan learned I was moving into my first apartment, without hesitation, he offered me use of his family’s van. I remember thinking how generous and thoughtful that was, especially given the short duration of our friendship at that time.
My deepest condolences to Margie and family.

  • Margie and Family, Kathy and I pass along our heartfelt sympathy and condolences, and all our prayers go out to you. Dan was one of a kind. No better person have I ever met. He would give you the shirt off his back and more. He was one great man. Loved him like a brother even though sometimes it did not show. One of the best days of my life is when he called me to come work for him at Snap-on. Best boss I ever had doing so much for me and my career. So many great memories of Dan that will live with Kathy and I forever. Boy we had some fun working and playing. RIP Big Dan!

  • Dan Kugler was a larger than life presence in his family, community and business career. He enthusiastically approached every challenge with a why not ? How do we get this done attitude. He asked us all to give a little more and we were always willing when Dan did the asking.

Margie, our hearts go out to you and your family.

  • Alberto Lopez says:

Margie – Annie and I are very sorry for your loss and send you our deepest condolences. I was very fortunate to have met Dan both professionally and personally. We had great times and adventures together, and I will miss both his always-happy disposition, and the feeling that when you saw him, he made you fell like you were his best friend.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Dan’s passing. I was very fortunate to know Dan both personally and professionally, as we have worked together on some RIMS projects and bounced our risk management experiences off each other. Dan has always had a larger than life presence and I can still hear his deep voice and laughter as we conversed. You have my deepest sympathies.

  • Nowell Seaman says:

Margie, Caitlin and all the family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Dan was the best friend and colleague, and I’m heartbroken and saddened at his sudden passing. He was legendary in the RIMS and risk management world. Well-loved, respected and highly regarded, we will all miss him dearly. Sending you our love, prayers and support.

  • Richard Hackenburg says:

Provide Dan with the opportunity to help a student, he would be there. Provide Dan with the opportunity to teach, he would take it. Provide Dan with the opportunity to create, his imagination would know no bounds. Provide Dan with the opportunity to entertain, people wold be drawn to him. He lived life large, and made a positive contribution to so many. He is gone too soon, yet he will live on in so many that owe him so much.

  • Richard L Heinz (Duncan) says:

My sympathies to the family and those close to Dan, we shared UW-O and Delta Sigma Phi as brothers. YITBOS

  • Charyl J Burke says:

Too Dan’s family. You know what a gem he was. I am saddened to learn of Dan’s passing. He always lit up whatever room he was in and was welcoming and a wonderful character and friend. Besides our interaction over the years as part of the Risk Management community we shared good times at Georgia State as part of a special program. Dinner was always fun and his laugh special. He really loved teaching and promoting Risk Management as a distinct field of endeavor to the larger business management community.

  • Dan was a gregarious guy with such love of live. He as quick to laugh or tell a joke and just made you feel welcome in his presence. We worked together on many projects during our careers at Snap-on and his wisdom was sought out by many within the company. He was generous with his time and help which endeared him even more to people. Dan will be missed and Ruth and I wish Margie and the family all the love and deepest sympathies.

  • To the family of Mr. Kugler: My sincerest condolences. May the God of all comfort be with you during your time of mourning. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4. Take Care.

  • Donna Dunn, Dave Zastrow, Denise Postula says:

Our sincere sympathy and condolences. We pray your happy memories carry you through this difficult time. Each of us have fond memories of our cousin Dan from our earlier years growing up. Some remain very vivid, especially the summer he spent with us in Kalamazoo when we were in high school. Dan often initiated activity and it could range from getting in a little trouble to something thoughtful. It was never a dull moment when Dan was around. We always knew Dan as Danny boy and would kiddingly call him that when he was all grown up. Rest in peace Danny boy.

  • Bob Winter says:

    The Big One
    A Tribute
    Everything about him was BIG.
His body, his voice, his laugh, and his stories. Oh man, his stories. Mary and I have always said Dan could tell you about his trip to the dry cleaners and have you in stitches.
We could spend the rest of the day today, tomorrow, the next day, and well into 2023 or 2024 just telling Kugler stories without a repeat.
But what would the point of that be? The best Kugler storyteller is gone.
And true to form, Dan leaves behind a big wake.
But he also leaves behind a big circle of friends and family who are all better off because of his big heart, his generosity and compassion.
Margie, Leigh, Lauren, Caitlin, Kali, Jack, Mallory ,Fletcher, Cash, Jordan, Nolan and Carter: we will all try to fill the void you feel right now. Dan built a loyal and loving group of friends you can count on, as we know our families could count on him should it be our lives we were celebrating here today.
I read somewhere recently that if you are lucky you have 3 really good friends in your life.
I guess I am lucky because I have had three. I married one of them, Pete Glaeser is here with you today and I am saying good bye today to the third.
Dan called us his band of brothers. So it seems fitting I close this tribute with a quote from the Shakespeare play that phrase is taken from”
“Once more into the breach: We few, we happy, we Band of Brothers”
God bless you, Dan Kugler, you showed us how to live a wonderful life: big and loud.

  • Dario Fioretti-Frank says:

I had the honor of working with Dan for several years at Snap-on. To say Dan was truly an outstanding individual is an understatement. He will be missed……
My condolences to Margie and the entire family.

  • Kathleen Bowman says:

Well, I guess it’s time for a dear friend who has known Dan from birth to chime in and say how he will always have a place in my heart. I know the funeral time will be busy, and there may have not be time to fully share with all the love that will be there. Through tears I remember our mothers, Dorothy and Ruth, working together, sharing in the good times and bad, being at each others’ weddings, their husbands and, later, their children, being best friends because it couldn’t be any other way, we all loved each other so much. So, I remember Dan, as a child, all of us around the family dining room table, after a wonderful “Dorothy” meal playing card games, board games, with so much laughter the rules were sometimes forgotten. To the present, I am so glad my husband, Dennis, and I were privileged to spend some time with all the “Kugler” clan in the Eagle River area just a few short years ago, not knowing how soon Dan would go to be with the Lord. Dan gave us a “thrilling” ride on the pontoon boat (we’ll never forget it), and even though it had been years since we saw each other, we were immediately part of the “crowd”, that’s just Dan and Margie’s hearts. So, rest in peace my dear friend, you will be missed, but remembered with love. God Bless, Kathleen Church Bowman and Dennis
