Colleen Joy Cox

Colleen Joy (Rokusek) Cox, age 57, of Kenosha went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 16th, 2021, at home with her family by her side. Colleen was born on July 29th, 1964 in Rockford, IL to Kenneth and Darlene (Paquet) Rokusek.  The Rokusek family moved to Kenosha, and she attended Jane Vernon, Lincoln Jr High, and Tremper High School.  At Tremper, Colleen was involved in the band programs, Black Watch, and the Tremper softball team.  She graduated in 1982 and in 1986 earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Management from Evangel College in Springfield, MO, and she worked as a director of recreation for a few years. Colleen married the love of her life, Donald Cox, on August 15th, 1987.  She was a member of Journey Church and volunteered in many capacities in the children’s programs.  She taught Sunday school, was a Rainbow and Missionettes leader, and also helped with the youth group.  Many of Colleen’s closest and most enduring friendships were formed as a result of her time spent at church. For many years, she was active in a city league softball team. Her love of softball came from her dad, but her competitive spirit was all her own.  She loved camping and being outdoors in God’s creation especially the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Colleen loved her family and Don, her husband, most of all.  She was blessed to see all three of her children meet and marry their wonderful spouses.  When she became a Grandma to three boys, Colleen’s fun, energetic spirit became overwhelmingly apparent.  You could always count on Colleen finding great bargains at garage sales. She loved people well and cared for their needs. Because Colleen accepted Jesus as her Savior in her youth and followed Him, we rejoice that we will see her again. Philippians 1:6 states, “I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

She was preceded in death by, her father-in-law, Earl Cox and her mother-in-law, Margie Cox. Colleen is survived by, her husband of over 30 years, Donald Cox; her parents, Ken and Darlene Rokusek; three children, Aaron (Tara) Cox, Ryan (Racheal) Cox and Lauren (Ryan) Toeller; three grandchildren, Asher and Wesley Cox and Sabre Toeller; her brother, Dan (Julie) Rokusek; her sister, Becky (Doug) Hallstrom; her mother-in-law, Merry Cox as well as other family and many friends.

A memorial service for Colleen will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 11th, 2021, at Journey Church (10700 – 75th Street). A visitation will be held at the church from 6:00 P.M. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Southeastern Wisconsin Youth for Christ in her memory.  (www.youthforchristwi.com)

Thoughts for Colleen Joy Cox;

    • Met Colleen in college and soon became friends. The Cox family attended the same church as I did in Indianapolis and have known them for many years.

  • Wayne and Sheri Sparks says:

We met Colleen through Journey Church. She was always such a joyful person. She will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. We count it a privilege to give a donation to Youth For Christ in her honor.

  • Karen and Rick Lund says:

I only saw Colleen twice a year. At Dons employer picnic and Christmas party. We were the spouses at the events so we stuck close together. She was one of the reasons I so enjoyed attending. She was so easy to talk to and always friendly. We always wanted to get together outside of these events but life got in the way. She was so loved and will be greatly missed.

  • I enjoyed meeting and getting to know Colleen at Evangel College (University). I saw that she had a great sense of humor, affinity for sports, and most of all love for Christ. It is not surprising to learn that she used all of her gifts and personality in service to the King of Kings. Our time at Evangel was short, however during that time I was honored that she counted me a friend. I will be praying for her family and those close to her that they find comfort durning this time of loss through the love of Jesus.

  • Mike Stewart/Diane Stewart says:

Don often said that the girl he marries will have to be a combination of grandma Stewart, his mom, and aunt Erna. Wow, talk about setting a high bar! Then he met Colleen. She was such a wonderful blend of those women – grandma’s common sense, aunt Erna’s servant heart, and Margie’s love of people. She and he were playmates, walking through life so much in love with each other. She very quickly became dear to us, too. More than anything she was Don’s closest friend and is sorely missed.

  • Jim Kapellusch says:

Don. I am so sorry for your loss. You have my deepest sympathies. I only met Colleen once, at the Twin Disc Christmas party, but I could tell she was a special lady.

    • Amy Carravetta says:

I’ve known Colleen almost my whole life because I was great friends with her sister Becky. There are many times that I spent with the Rokusek Family spending the weekend with them, camping or just going on any kind of trips with them. Colleen was always so sweet she was like an older sister to me. I’m so sad she’s gone but I do know we will all see her again one day. I love you Colleen😇

  • Colleen was such a friendly happy person. I first met Colleen while working in Aaron’s preschool class. When I would see her around town, she always remembered me & my connection with Aaron. She was so proud of her boys.
My heart goes out to Colleen’s family. God will take special care of her.

  • Sorry for your loss Don. I remember playing softball with First Assembly and Colleen was always our most enthusiastic cheerleader.

  • Colleen was that person that I raised my children with. She was the first person I called to share each accomplishment and every hurdle in life. There are so many memories I can not name them all. When Iwould get together with family she was always the first to greet me and save me a seat near her, I’ll always miss her warm greeting and her fun personality. I will miss her so much until we meet again.

  • Barb Williams says:

Colleens joy for life was contagious! Many memories playing softball together, birthday parties with our kids when they were little. Always ran into her at rummage sales and caught up with each other lives. Truly blessed to have known her!

  • Patricia Jimenez (Barthuly) says:

I had the wonderful pleasure of playing softball with Colleen and watching how she followed God‘s path for her Family and her self
Colleen always had a smile on her face and a good attitude never ever putting anybody else down she was a pleasure as a friend and a joy to be around I find great peace in knowing that someday I’ll see her in heaven
We love you Colleen and you will always be remembered

  • Colleen and I ministered in Rainbows and other areas of kids ministries. It’s been so long since we saw each other, but I know if we did our friendship would still be fresh. Someday I will see her bright shining face again. Colleen was a wise, kind, joyful person. A strength. She left us all too soon.

  • COLLEEN I know you for a long time you will truly be missed by me and my grandkids growed up with your family and thanks for all you did your heart was always show how much you care for people and show God’s love
