Benjamin A. Sturdevant

KENOSHA-Benjamin Arthur Sturdevant, 78, died from complications of Myelodysplastic Syndrome on June 21st, 2025, in his residence. He was born in North Manchester, Indiana on October lst, 1946, to Benjamin Franklin Sturdevant and Genevieve Marie (Bernard) Sturdevant.


After graduating from high school in North Manchester, Indiana in 1963, Ben enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a radarman. While stationed in Long Beach, CA, Ben was shipped off aboard the U.S.S. Hull to serve in the Vietnam War. After returning home from Vietnam, Ben married Shela Lee Jackson on December 28, 1968 in Milwaukee WI. They celebrated 56 years of marriage last December. Ben was an avid golfer, nicknamed Bogey Ben, and even named he and Shela’s beloved cats Birdie and Bogey.


In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sister Elsie and brothers Eugene and Thomas. Surviving in addition to his wife, Shela (Jackson) Sturdevant, are his daughters, Crystal (Sturdevant) Carter of Kenosha and Nicole (Sturdevant) Ryan and her husband Heath Ryan of Kenosha; two grandchildren, Shelby (Carter) VanHecker and her husband Michael VanHecker of Milton, WI and Tyler Carter and his wife Daniela (Rivera) Carter of Dayton, OH; one great-grandson, Rafael Benjamin Carter; brother George Sturdevant and sister Susan (Sturdevant) Jones; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.


Military honors will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9th, at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery, 21425 Spring Street, Union Grove, WI 53182. The Sturdevant family would like to thank Ben’s caregivers from Aurora, Froedtert, and Hospice Alliance for their dedication to caring for him.
