Marilyn Louise Laubenstein (Kortum), born January 13, 1940, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, passed away on April 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
She leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy rooted deeply in love, warmth, and togetherness.
Marilyn was the beloved daughter of Anna and Bernard Kortum, and from an early age, she carried with her the values of family, kindness, and resilience that would define her life.
She attended local Kenosha Schools and graduated from Bradford High School. She began her working years at the Fon-Tan-Blu Drive-In and later worked several years at Coopers, Inc., now known as the Kenosha Jockey Factory.
Marilyn spent most of her career with the Kenosha Unified School District, where she served as a Head Cook until her retirement. Through her work, she nourished not only bodies but also hearts, touching the lives of many with her care and dedication.
On May 16, 1959, Marilyn married the love of her life, William Laubenstein. Their love story was one of a lifetime—growing up side by side, building a family, and sharing a bond that never faded. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, strength, and unwavering love.
Marilyn was a woman whose heart was always centered on her family.
She found her greatest joy in the simple, meaningful moments—gathering loved ones around the table, sharing stories, laughter, and the comfort only she could bring.
Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where her passion for cooking and baking created not just meals, but lasting traditions and unforgettable memories.
Marilyn found peace and happiness in the outdoors, whether she was fishing, tending to her garden, or watching birds and butterflies flutter gracefully nearby.
She also enjoyed bowling, where her fun spirit and easy laughter brought smiles to those around her.
Marilyn is now at peace, free from pain, reunited with the love of her life, William, dancing together once again like they did since they were kids to their famous song “Young Love.”
She is also reunited with her beloved son, Matthew, along with her parents, siblings, and family, and all the dear friends she cherished over her 86 years. She is surrounded by all the loyal German Shorthairs they loved so dearly over the years.
Marilyn will be remembered for her nurturing soul, her gentle strength, and the way she made everyone feel welcomed and loved.
Her presence was a steady light in the lives of those who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt.
Marilyn is survived by her loving family, including her children, Daniel Laubenstein (Tonia Anderson) and Laurie Laubenstein.
She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Nichole Hickey, Stephanie Perekovich, Cassie Laubenstein, and Briana Laubenstein, and a cherished great-grandmother to Mia Laubenstein.
She is also survived by extended family, dear friends, and neighbors—everyone she impacted throughout her life—who will carry her memory forward in every shared meal, every blooming garden, and every bird or butterfly that passes by.
A bushel and a peck, and a hug around your neck—forever in our hearts
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
