It is with great sadness that we who love Virginia (Willems) Gillis mourn her passing on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Froedtert South Kenosha Campus. Virginia was born on July 7, 1924 in Kenosha, she was the daughter of William and Mary (Mischo) Willems. Virginia was educated in Kenosha where she lived her entire life. On August 19, 1944, she was united in marriage to Leo J. Gillis. He preceded her in passing on April 13, 1994. Also preceding her was a grandson, Darrell Gillis on May 14, 2005; four brothers, Wendelin, Gerhard, David and Walter and three sisters, Cecelia, Isabel and Genevive.
She was employed at National Foods and Kenosha Leatherette. She is also an active member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church. Virginia enjoyed many activities, but her favorite was dancing, and she was still jitter bugging at 90. Although she enjoyed many activities, quality family time topped the list.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Paul) Whiteside; two sons, Leo R. Gillis (Amanda) and Dale A. (Ruth) Gillis. Also surviving, is her brother Leonard Willems and many grand and great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church (4816 -7th Avenue). A visitation with the family will take place on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass.
