Sonya Rhutasel, 39, a resident of Kenosha, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 9, 2006, at St. Luke?s Medical Center in Milwaukee.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on February 22, 1967, Sonya was the daughter of Gurdev and Gerhilde Singh of Barrington, Illinois.
She married Neal Rhutasel in 1992, and then moved to Kenosha to attend UW-Parkside in 1993. She became a Registered Nurse in 1995 working at St. Luke’s Oncology unit. She returned to UW-Parkside later as an adjunct professor teaching Anatomy and Physiology.
Sonya had a great love for her family, church, and community. She would stretch beyond her limits to make things better for others. Sonya was driven to live her life with an unstoppable ambition that allowed her to experience everything to the fullest potential. She was a caring nurse, compassionate friend, devoted daughter, wife, and mother. All those she touched will miss her.
In addition to her family, Sonya was devoted to the kids at Kenosha Bible Church as the Co-Director of the Sparks Awana program. She also loved helping the teachers and staff at Whittier Elementary School and supporting the local home school community as well.
Her parents, Gurdev and Gerhilde Singh; her husband Neal Rhutasel; her son Gorden; daughter Talia; and Sister Rita Janssen-Singh survive her.
A memorial service for Sonya will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at 6 p.m. at Kenosha Bible Church in Kenosha (5405 67th Street). Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church from 4 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials may be made to the family to benefit oncology research, World Vision, or higher education scholarship and/or charities.
