Shirley J. (Magnino) Nellen, age 74 a resident of Kenosha, entered into eternal life at home on Monday September 17, 2012 at her residence.
Shirley was born on November 5, 1937 in Painesdale MI to the late Joseph and Amelia (Masini) Magnino. She moved to Kenosha in the summer of 1945. She attended and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1955, Racine/Kenosha Teacher’s College in 1958, Whitewater Extension and Platteville State College in 1962. She was a wonderful elementary school teacher and held positions in Kenosha and Milwaukee. On February 19, 1966 she married William Nellen at Mt. Carmel Church. They later divorced. In the 70’s and 80’s they managed two motels and a pet shop in Mauston and Wisconsin Dells. Shirley returned to Kenosha in 1987. She retired in 1998. Shirley enjoyed her retirement playing Bingo, listening to her many tapes, exercising, swimming and maintaining her health. Shirley was most proud of her accomplishment to stop smoking in 1999. She was a member of Nicotine Anonymous and Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
Shirley is survived by her brother Joseph Magnino of Milwaukee and two sisters Mary (Larry) Kessler of Kenosha and Priscilla (Hugh) McShane Goshen KY. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, sister Josephine Cipparone and brother Dr. James Magnino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday September 22, 2012 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Kenosha. (1919-54th Street) Visitation with the family will be on Saturday at the church from 10:00AM until the time of Mass. Entombment will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
