Santos Cornell Castro (Cornell) began his spiritual journey on Tuesday morning, January 26, 2016. He entered this world on December 17, 1952, in Keshena, Wisconsin at the Saint Joseph Indian Hospital and is a member of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin.
Cornell spent most of his life in Racine, Wisconsin where he attended school and graduated from J.I. Case High School. He continued his schooling, achieving three state certified licenses as a commercial Driver, Heavy Equipment Operator, and Over the Road Truck Driver where he traveled throughout the United States and Canada for over 35 years. He retired from Holland Enterprises, Inc. of Fargo, North Dakota in 2013.
During his times at home, Cornell was an accomplished musician, drummer, vocalist and Elvis Presley impersonator when he performed and entertained at local nightclubs, charitable events, nursing homes, private holiday parties, and at Racine’s well-known Oasis at the North Beach lakefront with his older brother, Abel Castro and the band, “Free Time, Loose Change”.
Cornell is preceded in his journey by his mother, Elsie Castro and brother, David Castro. He is survived by his father, Santos Orozco Castro, his daughter, Leslie Ann Wallace and two granddaughters, Kayleigh Wallace and Madison Wallace. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Abel Castro (Phyllis), Carmen Castro-Garza (Luis), Christine Smith (Raymond), Cruz Castro, Craig Castro, Celestine “Tina” Koehn (Tom), Cecelia Castro and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Visitation and Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the Congregation of the Great Spirit Church, 1000 West Lapham Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53204 (414-672-6989). Cornell’s internment will take place in the Spring of 2016 in Keshena, Wisconsin at the Rest Haven Cemetery.
