Robert “Bob” S. Weiss

1924-2016

          Robert (Bob) Weiss, 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, of Kenosha WI, died Thursday June 30, 2016 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.

Bob was born on June 5, 1924, the son of Pauline and Lawrence Weiss. He attended school at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran School through ninth grade and graduated from Bradford High School. Upon graduation, Bob worked for Tri-Clover Machine Co, making 40 millimeter anti-aircraft shells for World War II.

He was drafted into the Army Air Force in July 1943. He attended two Airplane Mechanic Schools, graduating and worked on P-40, B-25 and P-51 Aircraft, sometimes flying as a flight engineer. He served overseas in England, France, and Germany and received the American Theatre Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, The Good Conduct Medal and The World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged December 4, 1945, Patterson Field, OH.

After the war, he worked at Tri-Clover, American Motors, Nash and Chrysler Corp. He was co-owner of Weiss-Jornt Standard Service Station and then opened Weiss Auto Clinic and Weiss D-X Auto and Marine, the location of which is now The Boat House.

Bob and Ethel were married at Bethany Lutheran Church in Milwaukee WI on September 30, 1961. Bob sold his business in 1976 and then worked for Chrysler Corporation from where he retired in 1988. Bob loved water skiing, downhill skiing, golfing, boating, fishing, hunting, bowling, restoring an old 1935 Desoto Airflow and enjoying life with his wife, family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Ethel, his daughter Sandy (Chris) Anderson, his son Craig (Michele) Weiss of West Bend, his 6 grandchildren Ryan, Nick and Ashley Anderson, and Amanda, Nathan and Aaron Weiss. He is also survived by his nephews Larry (Phylis) Weiss, Michael (Pam) Schmidt, and Bill (Kathy) Schmidt, and by his beloved niece Carol (Paul) Powell and great niece Kara (Pete) LaChapelle and many other loving friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gerhard (Gary) Weiss and his sister Mildred Schmidt and a brother and sister in infancy.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11:00AM at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church (5020 19th Avenue Kenosha) where Bob was a lifetime member. Visitation with the family will be at the church on Saturday from 9:30AM until the time of the 11:00AM service.

Burial will take place on Monday July 11, 2016 at 9:00AM at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery (21731 Spring St. Union Grove).
