Richard E. Waas, age 83, passed away on Saturday December 26th, 2015 at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in Union Grove.
Richard was born on June 29th, 1932 in Beloit to Harry and Bernice Waas. The family moved to Kenosha where he was educated in the local schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force and in the U.S. Army as a combat medic in Korea. He received a Silver Star for his service.
On April 3rd, 1959, he was united in marriage with Mary Bernhardt-Jankiewicz. Richard worked many years for Tandem Transport, retiring in 1997.
Richard loved to volunteer at Kenosha Hospital. He enjoyed cooking and once served as president of the Dusty Roadrunners Camping Club. He and Mary were members of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Richard is survived by his sons Ronald (Barbara) Jankiewicz of Somers and Gary Waas of Portland Oregon. He is further survived by his sister Mae Olson of Sheboygan, his companion Marie Tutor of Kenosha, nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Preceding Richard in death were his parents, his wife Mary, his son Walter Jankiewicz and his brothers Leroy, Barney and Robert.
A Service of Christian Burial for Richard will be held on Wednesday, December 30th, 2015 at 11:00AM at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church (5038-19th Ave). Visitation with the family will take place on Wednesday at the church from 10:00AM until the time of services. Burial at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park with full military honors will immediately follow the services at church.
