Richard John Schaefer, 78, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Sunday January 8th, 2017 at his home in Paris WI.
Born on February 1st, 1938 in Kenosha County to Frank and Stella (Pawlowski) Schaefer, Richard Schaefer was a lifelong resident of the Town of Paris.
In his early years, Mr. Schaefer helped on the family farm with his father, harvesting crops and tending to the animals. He attended St. John’s Catholic Grade School and has remained a parishioner there ever since.
He married Brenda (Jerome) Schaefer of Kenosha and they had a wonderful marriage for over 20 years. He served as a volunteer on the Paris Fire Department during his younger years.
Mr. Schaefer had a passion for farming. He worked up until the day of his death as a cattle farmer and harvester; driving tractors and herding steers with his son Jeff. He was an avid card player and square dancer who loved the company of other card players and “shooting the moon”. He greatly missed his best friend and favorite card playing pal Kenneth (Lorraine) Barter, who passed away recently. He also loved watching and caring for his three great grandchildren. He had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his sons Jeffery (Yolanda) Schaefer and Adam (Jane) Schaefer, his grandson Corey Schaefer, his granddaughter Amanda (Sergio) Arizmendi and his three great grandchildren Seliz, Anjy and Alvin Arizmendi. He is further survived by his brother Franklin (Ardis) Schaefer, his sister, Mary (Jerry) Thompson, many nieces, nephews and countless good friends made through the years.
Preceding Mr. Schaefer in death were his parents, and his beloved grandson Anthony Richard Schaefer in 2008.
