Paul Walter Smaglick, age 82, of Sturtevant, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017.
Paul was born on March 23, 1934 in Iron Mountain, MI to the late Walter and Alvina (née Bast) Smaglick. He graduated from Hermansville High School in 1952, in the top ten of his class. On October 17, 1953, he married Joan Barbara (née Ferrari) Smaglick, with Ralph and Lilian Slaasted standing by their side.
Paul worked for Pugh Oil Company in Racine, WI for 33 years. Paul’s crystal blue eyes, sense of humor, and charming smile were irresistible. He was a champion polka dancer and played many a good card game. He loved fishing aboard the Double D, hunting “up at camp,” and traveling. He’s hunted for elk and moose in Montana and Canada, visited Australia, Panama, and nearly every state in the U.S. He used his natural talent to build everything from a bus shelter for his granddaughters to his own home where he raised his kids and two of his brothers. He treasured his time with family and friends.
Paul is survived by his children Laurie (John) Johnson, Allen (Cathy) Smaglick, Jennifer (Daniel) Roman, and Paul J Smaglick; his grandchildren Jennifer Laurie Roman, Carmen Johanna Roman, Luis Roman, Gabriel (Melissa) Roman, and Dan F. (Beth) Roman; his great-grandchildren Makenzie Roman and Penelope Roman-Lain; and his siblings Joe Lickman, Carol (Darell) Post, Joyce (Frank) Sabo, and Susie (Mike) Gustitus.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife Joan, parents Alvina & Walter; siblings Rita (Melvin) Poquette, Earl (Ruth and Carol) Lickman, William Lickman, and Wayne Lickman; and his Uncle Harry and Aunt Betty Lickman.
An interment ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. on February 24, 2017 at Westlawn Memorial Park–Chapel, 9000 Washington Ave, Racine WI. A “shindig” to celebrate Paul’s life will immediately follow (luncheon at 12:30 p.m.) at Reefpoint Brew House, 2 Christopher Columbus Causeway, Racine, WI.

Colleen Lois says:
I had the good fortune to meet and spend time with Paul while he was at the Chestnut Club in Burlington. He was a very kind, considerate gentleman and played a mean game of cribbage. I am thankful to have had an opportunity to know Paul and feel he enriched many lives through his journey of life. My deepest condolences. Colleen
