Norbert G. Smekens, age 85 a resident of Racine, died Thursday June 1, 2006 at Willow Crest Care Center in South Milwaukee.
Born on April 21, 1921 in Green Bay WI he was the son of the late Peter and Maryanne (Weidner) Smekens.
As a young boy he moved to Powers MI and was educated in the schools of Powers MI.
He moved to Racine in 1941.
He served in the US Army.
On December 26, 1967, he married Florence Strasser at St. James Catholic Church in Franklin WI.
He was employed at Racine Hydraulics for 18 years, and then was employed at Walker Manufacturing as a foreman until his retirement in 1986.
He was a past member of St. Lucy?s Catholic Church. He is a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish.
He is survived by his wife Florence of Racine, two sons David of Salt Lake City Utah, Ray of SanFrancisco CA, one sister Agnes Johnson of Powers MI and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers John and Francis.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Smekens will be celebrated on Wednesday June 7, 2006 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul the Apostle Parish. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the church from 12:00 until the time of mass. Entombment will take place at a later date at All Saints Mausoleum in Kenosha.
In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated to St. Paul the Apostle Parish.
