Milton John Curcio, age 82 a resident of Racine died Thursday May 25, 2006 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Racine.
Born on September 13, 1923 he was the son of the late John and Esther (Neff) Curcio.
Educated in the schools of Racine he attended Washington Park High School and was part of the February 1942 graduating class. He would serve as the Class Reunion Alumni President.
He served in the US Navy from September 24, 1942 until November 20, 1945. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and received 2 stars. He also received the Philippines Liberation 1 star, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
On April 1, 1944 at Atonement Lutheran Church he married Betty Jane Kitt.
Along with his father and brother he was a partner in J.C. Engineering. He then worked at Racine Steel Casting where he would retire. He also owned and operated Milts Four Seasons Equipment.
He was very active in motorcycle racing. He was the Modified Stock Car Champion at Wilmot in 1959 and was the USAC Rookie of the year in 1962. He was also part of the Norm Nelson pit crew. He was active in the Racine Jr. Ski Club. He took part in organizing snowmobiliers to conduct winter search and rescue efforts for Racine County Snowmobile teams. He helped set up and teach the first county wide DNR sanctioned children?s snowmobile classes. He was also past president of the Racine County Alliance of Snowmobile Clubs. He was a member of the Johnson Park Hole in One Club. He was a member of the Navy Club, and the Masonic Temple. He was past president of the Washington Properties Inc. He played on the Racine Raiders Football team and later served on the Board of Directors.
As he got older, he loved to watch his son, son-in-law and grandsons race.
He is survived by one son, Milton “Bill” (Marilyn) Curcio of Racine, two daughters, Connie M. (Richard E.) Krueger of Racine, Carren (Scott) Porter of Racine, grandchildren Michael (Julie) Krueger, Carol (Dave) Micale III, Corrie Loomis, Richard Curcio, John Curcio, Jeff (Michelle) Curcio; one sister-in-law, Virginia Sabatino of Zion IL; two nieces, Sandra Pabst of Beach Park IL and Kitt (Chuck) Stockmar of Grand Rapids MI; two nephews Steve (Julie) Curcio and Dan (Ann) Curcio); and brother John G. (Shirley) Curcio of Racine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Betty in April of this year.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday May 31, 2006 at 6:00PM at the Harbor Lite Yacht Club at 559-State Street in Racine. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the Harbor Lite Yacht Club from 5:00PM until the time of service. Burial with full military honors will take place on Thursday June 1, 2006 at 9:00AM at Westlawn Memorial Park in Racine.
In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated to the charity of ones choice.
