Mary Laura Keul (DeRango)

Mary Laura DeRango-Keul passed away on May 19th, 2025, peacefully in the comfort of her daughter, Susan Keul. Born November 13th, 1934, daughter of Philomena Covelli and Achille DeRango and was proud of her Italian heritage. On September 12th, 1953, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Richard C. Keul. They were married 58 years until the time of his death in 2010. They are proud parents of two daughters, Sharon (who died of Leukemia in 1982 at the age of 25) and Susan Keul.

Mary Laura grew up in Kenosha and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1952. She attained a Bachelor of Education at the University of Wisconsin – Parkside. She earned her Master of Art and Masters of Guidance and Counseling at Marquette University.

One of Mary Laura’s most memorable teaching experiences took place when she taught in the British Schools and lived with a British Family. She completed work in the area of Open Education in the British Schools at the University of London.

Another memorable experience was when she volunteered one summer as a camp counselor at Paul Newman’s Camp for children with Leukemia. Mary Laura was recognized as an outstanding Italian both by Tremper High School and the Italian American Club.

Mary Laura valued education and encouraged others to grow. Through her compassion and gentleness Mary Laura believed every student should have a chance in life. Through her enthusiasm, creativity, and giving nature led her to her passion in teaching and counseling. She loved being a wife and mother to her family.

Inurnment at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI will take place privately.
