Mary L. Burks

 Mary L. Burks age 94 a resident of Racine WI, died September 29th, 2023, at the Villa at Lincoln Park in Racine.

          Born on December 26th, 1928, in Whitewater, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Dorothy Hubbard.

          Moving to Racine as a young child, she was educated in the schools of Racine.

          In 1943, she would marry Josiah Burks in Racine in a double ceremony which included her brother and sister law Bob and Grace Burks.

          She loved sewing and was active in the 4-H Horse and Rabbit projects of Racine County. She was also an active volunteer and served as a chaperone along with her husband for the Elks Youth Band. She especially loved animals including her “favorite” parrot Dickens and a cat Angel.

          She is survived by two daughters: Jody (Stephen) Sadlon of Racine WI, Jana Burks of Jackson WI, three grandchildren Craig, Cory, Ashleigh, two great grandchildren Ryan and Abbie and one great grandchildren Declan. She is further survived by her cat Sugar.

          She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Joel and Daniel, one daughter Jennifer, three brothers, Donald, William and Robert.

          Funeral services will be held on Friday October 6th, 2023, at 1:30PM at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church. (1700-S. Green Bay Road, Racine WI) Visitation with the family will be on Friday at the church from 12:30PM until the time of services. A burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park.

          The family would like to thank Lincoln Park Nursing and Rehab, Wholistic Hospice, and Joann and Chris at Mt. Pleasant Place for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

She was one of the first people to visit me after my daughter Becky was born with Downs Syndrome..gave me loving and caring words of encouragement. To take one day at a time. For that I was thankful.
