On February 18, 2026, at 99 years young, Mary A. Romano passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Mary was born July 23, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois to Frank and Jennie Marrazzo. Mary came to Kenosha as a child and was educated in Chicago and Kenosha.
On October 27, 1953, she was joined in marriage to Jerry A. Romano. They shared 32 loving years before Jerry predeceased her in 1986. Mary bravely started a new chapter with strength and independence. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas parish and later St. Peter Catholic Church.
As a young woman, Mary was employed by Coopers (now Jockey International) and KUSD. She had fond memories of time dedicated to those positions, yet family was always her priority. Mary loved her travels, especially to California, South Carolina and Florida where special memories were created.
Mary enjoyed walking, cooking, reading, eating sweet desserts and conversing with everyone. Mary made many friends and acquaintances of all ages with her outgoing personality and always made an effort to stay in touch with them.
Family, friends and faith filled her life and her heart. She was Nana to so many. Mary’s reminders regarding Daylight Saving Time and her reminders to “be careful” as we walked out the door will be missed. But mostly we shall miss her love.
Mary will be remembered for her strength, her vibrant spirit and the unconditional love she gave to her family. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the family she cherished. She will be deeply missed and always remain in our hearts.
Left to honor her memory are daughter Janice Romano, son Jerry (beloved daughter-in-law Lisa) Romano, granddaughters, Meghan (Salvatore) Bilotta, Jennifer Romano, great-grandsons Giovanni and Matteo whom she “loved to the moon and back”. Extended family, Joe, Jean, Marissa and Andrea Garretto, and Deb Marx.
As a tribute to Mary, please reach out to someone just to say hello.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (2224 30th Ave, Kenosha) on Thursday, February 26th, 2026, at 11 A.M. A public visitation will also be held at church on the same day from 10 A.M. until the time of Mass. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at St. George Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Alliance of Pleasant Prairie WI in Mary’s honor.

I will miss you so much! You were there for all the important events in my life. I was so proud of you when you drove by yourself to the “farm” 1 block WEST of I94. When I was little I thought Kenosha was so far away because you couldn’t drive back the same day.

Mary will definitely be sorely missed in our community. Everyone loved her. I know I will miss our routine visits. My granddaughter adopted her and always wanted to go visit. I know she will miss her dearly. So glad that my granddaughter and I were able to see her two days before. We had a lovely visit as a lasting memory of her humor and wit. This place will not be the same without her.

To the Romano Family:
Mary was our neighbor in St. Peter’s Village for the past nine plus years. She was a wonderful and interesting lady. We had many phone conversations throughout the years and enjoyed meeting in person at the village picnics in the summer. She always spoke of her wonderful family and how grateful she was to all of you. Deb and I will both miss her very much but will carry her in our hearts forever! My condolences to all of you.
Jane Harrington-Heide says:
Janice and Jerry, condolences to you and your loved ones on the passing of your mother, Mary. Certainly a long life and, based on the memories shared in the obituary notice, a life well-lived and a woman well-loved. I borrow these words from a sympathy card I received some years ago,
“If ever there is a circumstance in life in which we need imagination, it is when we are grieving. As you naviagte this loss, I encourge you to be creative. Be inventive. Be unembarassed to create your own healing. Refuse to passively wait for signs or visions. demand from spirit whatever your heart needs.” May this passage help you as you navigate your life going forward without your mother Mary.

Janice, just heard about your mom. When I think of her these words come to mind. Sweet, kind, loving, fun, and a great cook. I’m sure you have many more. My family still plays Bocce Ball, even my grandchildren. This is thanks to your dad introducing the game to our family. I wanted you to know I’m thinking of you at this difficult time. No matter the situation, it’s never easy. I always say, keep them in your memories, and they will always be with you. I’ll be thinking of you, and praying for you. All my love, Jon

Heartfelt condolences go out to you all on the passing of your beloved mother, Mary. She was such a wonderful and genuine person. In the scheme of things, she graced my life only for a short time many years ago, but she will be fondly remembered—the laugh, the food, and her great sense of caring.
