Martin T. Brown, age 55, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at St. Catherine’s Medical Center. He was born on August 17, 1963 in Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside, England, the son of Alan and Pauline (O’Donovan) Smart.
A native of England, Martin completed secondary school at Blessed Philip Howard RC in 1979 and joined the Royal Air Force and served at home and abroad, including active service in the Falklands War in 1982. After serving in the Royal Air Force, he joined the Greater Manchester Police where he took the warning call from the Provisional Irish Republican Army and stayed on duty to direct police and ambulance crews during the 1996 Manchester City Centre bombing. For this, he received an award from the Queen of the United Kingdom.
He moved to Kenosha after his service for the Greater Manchester Police and married Barbara Knight on November 15, 1997. In Kenosha, he worked for LJH Ambulance briefly before joining the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department where he worked at the Detention Center as a Corrections Officer and as a K9 handler during his 17-year tenure. He most recently was employed by Meijer in Asset Protection at Wauwatosa and Greenfield locations.
He is preceded in death by his father Alan Smart; nephew Jonathon Fearns; four brothers-in-law, Daniel Odegaard, Clint Gallion, Mark Fearns and Mark Robbins and his close K9 companion, Oldo.
Martin leaves behind his wife, Barb Knight-Brown; mother, Pauline Smart; three sisters, Fran Ryan, Jacqui Robbins, and Kate Fearns; two sisters-in-law, Roberta Odegaard and Karen Gallion; daughter, Laura Brown; two step-children, Brandon (Chrissy) Knight and Meghan (Michael) Bastianelli; five grandchildren, Gavin, Layla, Liam, Lucas and Logan; nephew, Aaron; niece, Sam Lou and many other nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church (9091 – Prairie Ridge Blvd). A visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be greatly appreciated.
