Maria J. Hernandez, age 74, a resident of Kenosha, died Thursday, May 31, 2007 at her residence.
Born on December 19, 1932 in Mexico, she was the daughter of the late Apolonio and Petra (Mendez) Cruz.
On December 1, 1951 in Mexico she married Ponciano Hernandez. They would come to the United States in 1952.
She was employed for many years by DelMonte Canning Factory in Crystal City Texas.
While in Texas, she was a longtime member of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Crystal City. She was also very involved in local Texas politics.
She came to the Kenosha area in 2005 to be near family.
She attended services at Iglesia Bautista El Calvario (Temple Baptist) in Kenosha, which she enjoyed very much.
She is survived by her husband Ponciano of Kenosha; three sons Gustavo (Jane) Hernandez of Texas, Juan (Linda) Hernandez of Minnesota, and Mike Hernandez of Oklahoma; three daughters Martha (Fred) Garcia, Maria (Tino) Garcia, and Sylvia (Joquin) Gomez, all of Kenosha; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two brothers Genovevo (Simona) Cruz of Texas and Guadalupe Cruz of Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, one son in infancy and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 6, 2007 at 10:00AM at Iglesia Bautista El Calvario at 5214-47th Avenue. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday evening from 5-10PM., and again on Wednesday from 9:00AM until the time of services. There will be a special prayer service on Tuesday evening during the visitation from 7PM-9PM. Burial will take place at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
