Lorraine E. Paura, 91, of Kenosha, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Manor Care with her loving family by her side. Lorraine was born in Silver Lake, WI on July 16, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Leo and Jeanne (Van Kammen) Kamin. She was educated in the schools of Kenosha.
On May 7, 1949, in Kenosha she married Raymond J. Paura. They later divorced. She was a lifetime resident of Kenosha. In her early days, Lorraine worked at Morrison’s Clothing Store. She was also a switchboard operator at St. Catherine’s Hospital.
She loved the Lord and her Catholic faith. She attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for many years.
Her true calling in life was her role as a loving mother to her six children. She loved being grandmother to her eight grandchildren and GG to her six great grandchildren. She had the kindest heart. Our mom was compassionate, sweet, silly, funny and a little crazy. She was beautiful inside and out.
The second part of her life she spent as the most well known and popular hostess in town. She had a true following anywhere she went from Rocco’s to Candle Light Supper Club. Anyone that met her, loved her.
Lorraine was a wonderful cook. Family and friends loved her homemade pies and her delicious potato salad.
She loved politics, listening to music and was also a Chicago Cubs fan.
Known to her many friends as “Mike” she was always the life of the party, especially at her son Dan’s annual Halloween party, where her creative costumes were always a hit. She loved to make people laugh.
Lorraine was a stylish dresser who was known for her lovely headbands.
She is survived by her six children; Mickey Vujovic, Stephen (Debbie) Paura, Daniel (Karen) Paura, Joseph Paura, Joan (Michael) Gaudio and Susan Paura; eight grandchildren; Jackie, Christopher, Michael, Sara, Nick, Stephanie, Jessica and Jake and six great grandchildren; Matthew, Ryan, Brady, Evan, Caleb and Kinsley.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Dorothy Kruse.
A prayer service will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at 11:00 AM at the Woman’s Club of Kenosha (6028 8th Avenue). A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
In memory of Lorraine, donations to Hospice Alliance of Kenosha or St. Jude’s Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
The family would like to thank Hospice Alliance for their loving care of Lorraine, and to the staff of Manor Care for their dedication and care they provided.
Lara Stone says:
I remember playing at Lorraine’s house with Jackie when we were just little kids. She always seemed like such a fun grandma. 🙂
