Lois Messmore (1928 – 2011)

Lois Ann Messmore, age 82, a resident of Kenosha, passed away Tuesday July 5, 2011 at Harbor House North.

Lois was born on August 12, 1928 the daughter of Adolph F. and Afton S. (Riser) Gruber in Iowa. She was educated in the schools of Allamakee County, Iowa. On June 24, 1960 she married Eugene D. Messmore in Chicago IL. She worked as a secretary for the Zenith Electronics Corporation, and later as a homemaker. She moved to Kenosha in 2005.

Lois is survived by one son Wayne Jay Underwood of Granite City IL and one daughter June (Jude Thomas) Brownlee of Kenosha WI. She is also survived by two grandsons Nicholas Ryan Underwood and Douglas Alan Underwood. She is further survived by one sister Elizabeth Rose of Chicago IL and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband one son Eugene Jr, one brother Rolland and one sister Mabel.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Aurora Medical Center and the staff of St. Joseph Adult Day Care and of Harbor House North for their outstanding care.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 16, 2011 at Kemper Center (6501 3rd Avenue) at 11:00AM. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday at Kemper Center from 10:00 until the time of services. Burial will take place at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Edwardsville IL.
