Lawrence K. “Bud” Nelson age 81 a resident of Pleasant Prairie died Thursday April 22 2010 at his residence.
Born on March 28th 1929 he was the son of the late Lawrence and Helga (Hansen) Nelson.
He was educated in the schools of Kenosha and was a graduate of Bradford High School.
He served in the US Army from Sept 13th 1948 until Jan. 20th 1954.
On October 21 1950 he married June Larsen at St. Mary Lutheran Church in Kenosha. He was employed for 38 years by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad retiring in 1991. After his retirement he was employed as a security guard at Dairyland Greyhound Park. Since 2001 he has been employed by the Kenosha News as a security guard. He loved most sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packer Fan. He also enjoyed the Chicago Black Hawks. As a young man he played in the minor leagues in Single A Class Ball.
He is survived by one son, Scott (Kathy) Nelson of Kenosha; two daughters, Linda (Thomas) Nielsen and Karen (Richard) Becker of Kenosha, seven grandchildren; Meggan (Kevin) Flament, Scott Jr. (Nicole) Nelson, Tracie (Michael) Radcliff, Shawn Nielsen, Jennifer (Adam) Mortenson, Samantha Becker, Vanessa Becker and one great grandchild, Brayden Radcliff. He is further survived by one brother James (Sandy) Riese of Kenosha, and one sister Judith (Don) Hansche of Bristol WI.
He was known by his family as a hard worker who would do anything to provide for his family.
A memorial funeral service will be held on Tuesday April 27th 2010 at 11:00AM at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church in Kenosha. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday at the church from 10:00AM until the time of services. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at Southern WI Veterans Cemetery.
