Laura A. Batwinski (nee: Petersen), age 95, passed away September 28, 2019 in Woodruff, WI. Laura was born July 26, 1924 in Racine, WI to the late Ole H and Ida F (nee: Therkelsen) Petersen. Laura attended William Horlick High School in Racine.
In 1942 she met Felix Batwinski at a dance at the German-American Club in Kenosha. Their romance would continue until they were married on March 24, 1944 at Camp Callen, CA where they were stationed during the majority of World War II. Their marriage would span 71 years during which time they had two sons; Robert “Bob” and Ted. She would live half her life in the Racine/Kenosha area then retired to the Wisconsin Northwoods in 1976.
Laura lived a life that was rich and full. She adored and was adored by her family. She was especially proud of her Danish heritage and expressed this best in the kitchen baking Danish cookies and apple cakes. Her family will always remember Christmas time where Laura would make dozens of different cookies to share among her children, grandchildren and other cherished family and friends. She was a doting mother and grandmother and always had time for anyone that showed up at her door. She had many hobbies and interests which included crochet, golf, playing bridge, puzzles, reading, sewing and watching gameshows and “the soaps”.
Laura is survived by her son Ted (Darlene) Batwinski of Arbor Vitae, granddaughter Kristine Batwinski of Kenosha, grandsons Steven (Kimberly) Batwinski of Spring Green, David (Jessica) Batwinski of Paddock Lake and Ted (Erin) Batwinski of Pleasant Prairie, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Felix, her son Robert, her cherished sister Esther Petersen, brother Walter (Arlene) Petersen and brother Herman (Carol) Petersen.
Funeral services will be held on Friday October 4, 2019 at 11:00AM at the Woman’s Club of Kenosha. (6028-8th Avenue) Visitation with the family will be on Friday at the Woman’s Club from 10:00AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at St. Casimir’s Cemetery.
