Kenneth Self, 74, passed away on Wednesday, February 8th, 2017 after a courageous 8-year battle with Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD) Kenneth was a resident of Kenosha, formally of Waukegan, IL and was born and raised in Tellico Plains, TN. He was the son of the late Robert Lester and Ersa Jean (Akins) Self.
In 1964 he was joined with Yvonne Murphy and they spent nearly 53 happy years together.
He was a professional driver and retired from bus driving after a 30 year career. He was a local legend and master mechanic, custom building his own Triumph motorcycles along with collecting 1969 Mustangs from all over the United States, restoring them to factory condition, and winning trophies at auto shows for them. His love of traveling, old movies, and history carried through to the very end.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Murphy, one son Kenneth John Self of Kenosha; two daughters Justine (Steve) Kevek of Bristol; Kathleen (Andrew Liston) Wilson of Kenosha; four grandchildren Kenneth (Kathryn) Klomp, John Ken Self, Clara Kevek, Mary Kevek; one great granddaughter Kayla Rose Klomp; two brothers Chuck Self, Robert (Trish) Self; two sisters Pat Carey and Lois Preston. He is further survived by his favorite Uncle Bill (Margaret) Akins and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother William Self.
Visitation and funeral to be held on Friday, February 17th, 2017 at Kemper Center – Founder’s Hall, 6501 3rd Avenue, Kenosha, WI. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, funeral to begin at 11 AM. Private burial will follow in Benton Greenwood Cemetery in Beach Park, IL.
