Kathleen E. “Kate” Friedrich, age 75, of Kenosha, passed away on Saturday September 2, 2017 at Aurora Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Kate was born in Chicago on September 12, 1941 to Albert and Nora (Rummel) Lulling. She made her home in Kenosha and her most impactful contribution to the world was the relentless, eternal love that she provided to raise her six children.
Kate was a compassionate and articulate person, eccentric in how she perceived the world. Her forms of expression became realized in her hobbies of reading, writing, and her love of drawing and painting. Kate was a huge fan of SYFY and could talk science fiction for hours. As a woman free to herself, she was a benevolent believer in equality; always willing to help anyone who needed a hand with an open mind and lack of judgement.
Her children referred to her as the “Stone Soup Queen” because she could make something out of nothing with her resourceful attitude; the grandchildren however, caught on to another name, and affectionately called her “Grandma Kitty” the name she gained through the first-born grandchild. Her pets were especially meaningful to her. If not for her exceptional fondness of her cat, Fraidy, then for all the pets that shared her home with her throughout her life.
Kate touched the lives of many. She loved to be the heart of friends and family gatherings, reveling in the love, the laughter, and the countless memories she shared with her friends and family. Never to be forgotten, Kate will live on through the generations of family she has created.
Kate is survived by her beloved children; Patrick Friedrich of Michigan, Bridget (David) Lawson of Trevor, Colleen (Chris) Sunderland of Pleasant Prairie, Meagan (Rob) Peterson of Kenosha, Erin (Chuck Crandall) Friedrich and Maureen (Neil) Redding, both of Michigan. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Heather, Alea, William, Dylan, Michael, Melissa, Kayla, Jeanette, Ira, Geo, Sommer and Peter and by her great grandchildren; Jordyn, Aubree, Aidan, Hunter, Landon, Haven, Alex, Ridley and Braden. Kate is further survived by her brother Dane (Donna) Lulling and by her sister Peggy (Lloyd) Wiegert with whom she shared a special bond which included many silly times and a great love.
Kate was preceded in death by her parents, former husband Donald Friedrich, and her beloved faithful companion “Rusty” her dog.
Funeral services for Kate will be held on Saturday September 9 at 1:00PM at the Woman’s Club of Kenosha (6028 8th avenue Parking and accessible entrance off Sheridan Rd.). Visitation with Kate’s family will be held on Saturday at the Woman’s Club from 11:30AM until the time of the service.
Kate’s family would like to thank RN David Nipcon of Aurora Hospital and Brain Barnhart and Meredith Foulkes of Aurora @ Home for the kind, loving care they gave to Kate.
