Joan Smaglick (1935 – 2011)

Joan Barbara Smaglick, age 75, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday February 24, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer, at home surrounded by family.

Born on April 10, 1935 in Escanaba MI to the late Andrew and Joan (Hesse) Ferrari. She graduated from Escanaba High School in 1953. On October 17, 1953 she married Paul Walter Smaglick. Joan worked as a supervisor at both Nestle and Miller Brewing Company. She found joy in spending time with her grandchildren, helping others and gardening. She enjoyed crocheting and a good card game. She was a huge Brewers and Packers fan and could always be counted on for a good laugh.

Joan is survived by her husband Paul; two sons; Allen (Cathy) Smaglick of Burlington WI and Paul J Smaglick of Mt. Pleasant WI, two daughters Laurie (John) Johnson of Burlington WI and Jennifer (Daniel) Roman of Cottage Grove WI and a brother-in-law she helped raise, Harlan (Joe) Lickman of St Petersburg, FL. She is also survived by two grandchildren Jennifer Laurie Roman of Cottage Grove WI and Carmen Johanna Roman of Cottage Grove WI and three step grandchildren Dan F (Beth Sager) Roman, Gabriel (Melissa) Roman and Luis Roman and one great grandchild Makenzie Roman all of Madison WI.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Joan Ferrari, brothers Bill, Andrew, John and Dick and sisters Lorraine Rakey and Jeanette Underwood.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 5, 2011 at 2:30 PM at Calvary Chapel Racine (9410 Durand Avenue, Sturtevant). Visitation with the family will be held at the Chapel from 1:00 PM until the time of service and immediately following.
