Joan A. Torris, age 83, of Kenosha was received by our Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Hospice Alliance – Hospice House. Joan was born on May 4, 1935 in Gilbert, Minnesota to Frank and Mary (Kramerich) Novak. She was educated in the schools of Gilbert, and graduated from Gilbert High School in 1953. Joan moved to Kenosha and married Leo C. Torris in 1956. They were married 60 years until his death in 2016. She worked for over 14 years for Laidlow Bus Company, caring for disabled children as a Transport Monitor. Joan was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of St. Marks the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was an avid reader, nature lover, loved her crossword puzzles and enjoyed excursions to area casinos with family and friends. Joan dedicated her time and money to charitable organizations including: The Wounded Warrior Project and The March of Dimes. Her greatest joy was keeping in touch with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Torris; her parents; her son, Michael Torris and her sister, Carol Novak.
Joan is survived by two children, Suzanne Torris of Edwards, Colorado and Andrew (Dawn) Torris of Kenosha; four grandchildren, Tiffany Dolan, Brent Torris, Geoffrey Ledon and Rachel Ledon; her newborn great granddaughter, Ophelia Dolan; three sisters, Betty Plattner, Virginia Sjoberg and Deborah Jacklovich as well as many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
A Memorial Mass for Joan will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at St. Mark’s the Evangelist Catholic Church (7117 – 14th Avenue). A visitation with the family will take place at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. Memorials may be made to Hospice Alliance or to the church.
