James Silas Lura, age 85, passed away in his home on February 19th, 2025. He will be dearly missed by everyone.
Jim was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to parents Silas and Mary Lura. He loved Wisconsin dearly and spent his entire life around Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie.
From a very young age, Jim was put to work on the family farm known as the Hawkeye Turkey Farm. After completing college in Tennessee, Jim continued to work on the farm for a few more years before hiring on with Ocean Spray where he worked for about 43 years continuously.
Throughout his life Jim had many passions, skills and interests. He was passionate about jogging, and he competed in numerous races and marathons. He took us to swimming pools throughout the year and always treated us to candy afterwards.
Jim loved designing and building things. Woodworking and wood carving were one of his many hobbies. He organized dozens of vacations that involved biking, hiking, skiing, camping, and canoeing with his wife Anita (Standridge) Lura and their son Jeffrey. Jim and Anita then fell deeply in love with global travel and racked up over 25 trips with Overseas Adventure Travel alone. The two of them especially loved to immerse themselves in the culture of the country they were visiting.
Always active with the church, Jim gave generously to the Methodist Church, the Shalom Center, Doctors Without Borders, Education for Children and many smaller organizations that he felt touched by.
After the passing of his high school sweetheart and wife Anita, Jim fell in love all over again when he met Ann Bradshaw. Ann and Jim got engaged and were able to celebrate eight wonderful years together before Ann’s passing in 2022.
Jim was preceded in death by his fiancé Ann, his wife Anita and his parents Si and Mary Lura. He is survived by his son Jeffrey and his wife Mia Lura from Fullerton, CA, and his granddaughter Josephine Lura from Anaheim, CA.
Services for Jim will take place on Wednesday, February 26th at First United Methodist Church (919 60th St). Visitation with the family will be at 10 o’clock and prayer service at 11 o’clock. Please enter through the main doors on 10th Ave.

Jeannine Field says:
Jim was a wonderful man and humanitarian. He cared so deeply about the lives of the marginalized and those experiencing homelessness. When you spoke with Jim, and I also had the pleasure of meeting Ann, his desire to help always lit up the room. I hope he knows how much he lifted our community. My condolences to his family. He is a man who will be missed.

There wasn’t a day that went by without a wink and a smile that lit up the room when Jeannine walked in.

Linda Dowell says:
I am very sad to hear that Jim passed away, the world has lost a very good man. He and Ann Bradshaw were members of Pleasant Prairie United Methodist Church. They both worked hard on many projects over the years to keep the building and grounds in top shape. He and Ann worked with our circuit churches organizing “Shalom to Home ” kits for the Shalom Center for the homeless as they transitioned to their own homes. He brought food our church collected to the Shalom Center Food Pantry. He was an active member of Living Waters Ministries which was dedicated to meeting the “spiritual needs of the community beyond church walls”. Jim was very enjoyable to talk to and had a wealth of knowledge from his many world travels. I will miss him!
Bill Widen says:
I had the pleasure of knowing Jim as a member of the Living Waters’ Ministries Board. Jim was instrumental in conceptualizing and leading Living Waters’ creation of “Shalom to Home” kits; packages of essential household items that were gifted to those who entered the Shalom Center in a homeless state and then transitioned into renting or leasing their own apartments. The kits contained everyday necessities for the kitchen, bathroom, and cleaning – items that many of us take for granted, but are not in the possession of people and families who have been living in homelessness for a period of many months. Jim and Ann collected cooking utensils, towels, and cleaning supplies from our Circuit of Methodist Churches, and often purchased new items to complete each kit. Jim’s basement became the warehouse for supplies as he and Ann assembled various kits and delivered them to the Shalom Center. Jim also provided much insight as a Board member, relying on his many years of business acumen gained at Ocean Spray. He was also instrumental in leading the annual Textile Drive, gifting food to the Sharing Center, and supplying various support items to the elementary schools of Western Kenosha County in response to needs arising from the Covid outbreak. Simply put, he lived his life as God’s good and faithful servant. I miss you, Jim.
