Jack Raymond Christensen, age 81, of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday July 2, 2017 at Ascension All Saints Medical Center.
Jack was born in Racine on March 24, 1936 to Oscar and Olivia (Simonsen) Christensen. On January 5, 1957, he was united in marriage with the former Karla J. Kesselman in Corinth Mississippi. Jack retired in 1990 as Captain in the Racine Fire Department after serving his community for 27 years.
Jack belonged to the Retired Fire Fighters Association and enjoyed traveling with friends. He was a gifted wood carver and he enjoyed country music and gardening. He loved to read about history and was an avid dog lover. His favorite past time though, was spending time with his granddaughters.
Jack is survived by Karla Christensen, his beloved wife of 60 years, and by his two sons, Steven (Diane) Christensen of Racine and Martin Christensen of Waukesha, as well as his granddaughters Alison (Nick) Fazzari and Hannah Christensen and his great grandson Julian Fazzari. Jack is further survived by his brothers Dan Christensen of South Dakota and Kenneth (Bonnie) Christensen of Racine and by his sister Pat (Bob) Schoedl of Florida, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Preceding Jack in death were his parents, his sisters-in-law Renee Christensen, Charlene Gill, Deloris Sokolowski and Sandy Vassh, his brothers-in-law John Vassh and Jerry Gill and his niece Shair Barth. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Westlawn Memorial Park Chapel (9000 Washington Avenue) at 11:00AM. Visitation with the family will be held in the Westlawn chapel from 10:00AM until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Humane Society of Wisconsin in Jack’s name would be appreciated.
