Jack Dehne, age 78, a resident of Mt.Pleasant, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, October 21st, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Racine on August 21st, 1937, he was the son of Hollister O. and Hazel (Jacobsen) Dehne. He graduated from Horlick High School as an award winning athlete. He was recruited as a gifted running back by the University of Wisconsin Badger Football Team and continued his love affair with the sport his whole life. Jack served in the U.S. Army and on June 24th, 1961, in Edgerton WI he married Barbara Hartzell.
Jack worked at Racine Steel and at Grede Foundries, but retired early due to his health. A fierce competitor, in his younger years Jack enjoyed sharing his love of sports with his son Peter. He was an avid Packer and Badgers fan.
A joyful volunteer, Jack put in many hours at his church. Even when he was ill, Jack never complained and always had a zest for life. His favorite times were the days spent on his daughter Jill’s sun porch overlooking the lake. Watching his adored grandchildren play, and basking in the love of his family and the beauty of nature, gave Jack the strength to continue living fully, despite his many health challenges. He will be dearly missed.
Surviving Jack are his loving wife Barbara, his son Peter Dehne of Omro and his daughter Jillian (Joel) Anderson of Wheaton IL as well as his beloved grandchildren Jacquelyn Dehne, Abigail Dehne, Colin Anderson, Joel Christian Anderson, Channing Anderson and Samuel Anderson and his beautiful great grandchildren Lily Dehne and Lucy Dehne. In addition, Jack is survived by his sister Sue (Willie) Lewis, his brother James (Valerie) Dehne, his sister-in-law Rita Hartzell, and a special cousin Donna Bartz as well as many other relatives and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, by a brother Richard Dehne and by his brother-in-law Dr. Richard Hartzell.
A memorial service for Jack will be held on Saturday October 31st 2015 at 11:30 AM at the Evangelical United Methodist Church (EUMC 212-11th Street Racine). A time for visiting with the family will be on Saturday at the church from 10:00AM until the time of services.
