Grace J Mikesell, age 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 28th, 2016 at Grande Prairie in Pleasant Prairie.
Grace was born on March 3rd, 1928 in Chicago to John and Sophie Pawlicki. She and her sister Veronica “Dena” were educated in the Polish Catholic schools of Chicago by nuns who spoke both English and Polish.
After high school, Grace worked as a secretary for the Railroad Retirement Board.
She married Erwin “Bill” Mikesell and took time off to raise her family. She later went back to work and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1992. Bill preceded her in death in 2008.
Grace’s hobbies included gardening and home improvement projects and she kept her interest after retirement with her love of HGTV, DIY and the Food Network.
She was known by many names; Gracie, mother, mom, ma, mentor and friend. She will be dearly missed because her family took such delight in her presence.
Grace is survived by her son Christopher Mikesell and by Chris’s wife Karen Marcus whom Grace loved like a daughter.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, her son Erwin Jr. and her sister and brother-in-law Veronica and Bob Jarka.
Grace was laid to rest by Bill at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles Illinois.

Grace, was a part of my life for 25 years.When grace was a homeowner in Chicago,she loved to garden,entertain, host family at thanksgiving and easter,clipping coupons,watching the sales papers religiously,make the rounds locally to all kinds of unique grocery stores to buy head cheese,liver sausage,kieska,and fresh polish sausage not SMOKED!!! Watching competitive skating,golf,and tennis was must see t.v. She loved her cat margo,and dogs streaker and baby.Spending time with her sister veronica and her sister’s adopted daughter was also a nice change of pace too.Her love of life Erwin sr. had a black and white head shot picture of them getting married you can see all the hope and joy in their eyes for a bright and happy future together.Grace had many friends as coworkers at the post office and the railroad retirement board who all just loved her.In wisc. she attended the westosha senior center on c for lunch and also was a frequent winner at their bingo games.Grace was a wonderful person and will be missed by both her son and her daughter in law.
